Agree with most comments. At the moment Yuri is West Ham, take her out of the equation and there is very little left. West Ham need to hit the transfer market in a big way. They need a CF who can shoot with both feet and form a partnership with Yuri. As for the defence five new players would not go amiss and a goalkeeper who understands positional play. All depends on how serious West Ham are on supporting woman's soccer. If not, release Hasegawa so that she receives the praise she so richly deserves with a better organised club.

Yui's specialty is through-pass, especially to penalty area but West Ham doesn't have such striker that can cope with the passes from behind. So Yui's choice is limited to sides. The difference to big 4 is whether the team has centre attack by one-touch passes or not.

I agree. During the preseason Hasegawa has been used in an Attacking midfielder or Second striker type of positioning, so I think the team's attacking opportunities have increased. I think the problem for West Ham is who will take on the role of controlling the defense.

@@mashin9215 all excellent points, Yui has a knack for that attacking midfielder role. It’s not just her precision in shooting, she’s smart with her runs and has a keen eye for through balls. I think we’re seeing where she shines the brightest. And also true about the defense. With any preseason there’s a learning curve with communication, but there have been a lot of odd decisions in our third this preseason.

@@emorydaniel9084 I think they were testing the building up from the back. Building up from the back can be a powerful tool but also a double-edged sword. If the opposition has good pressing tactics, it is possible for them to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately threaten the goal.

Sloppy defending and goalkeeping led to us going behind. This was a recurring theme last season that cost us quite a few wins when leading matches. You would think that these lapses in concentration would have been something to focus on eliminating and could again turn a potentially brilliant season into an average to good season. Yui was class as always and Kirsty Smith showed just how good she is out wide when fully fit.

Like Man Utd in the PL on Saturday, too many teams try to be fancy and cool when in possession around their own penalty area, and end up looking like chumps. Just get the ball away from the danger zone as quickly as possible.

@@gerrycollins7079 it's not even as if there wasn't a clear way to play the ball forwards 5 balls before the goal was scored. It was a problem last season for us and seems to not have been addressed. The defence seem to switch off and it costs the chance to win matches more times than we get away with it.

Can anyone identify where this game was being played? I like the VIP parking spots on the dirt field behind the goal; the limited seating for spectators and how unpretentious the whole set-up is. Although I do wonder what happens to when an errant shot puts the ball into someone's back garden/yard. Hopefully, they have more than one game ball.
