Here, in his own words, is Heston’s life as well as highlights of a career that resulted in over 60 motion pictures.
Subscribe for more Hollywood biographies and stories! bit.ly/Hollywoo...
He has been king and slave, hero and villain, renowned throughout the movie-going world for the heroic figures he played during his early years in Hollywood: Moses, Ben-Hur, El Cid and Michaelangelo. In a wide range of roles, from classical to futuristic, he has shown himself a consummate actor. But Charlton Heston has always been more than a star.
Although he is a private man, he has often appeared to be a very public one, willing to speak up on issues he believes in-however controversial they may be. Includes scenes from The Greatest Show On Earth, The Ten Commandments, The Big Country, Ben-Hur, Will Penny, Soylent Green, and Planet of the Apes.

I met him once at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion a week before "Oscar" Monday. He was the President of the Academy This was in 1980s. My mother talked me into taking a free tour of this beautiful building!! I would have never done the tour if not for her cajoling me. I didn't recognize him at first but when he took off his sunglasses, WOW...THOSE BLUE EYES!!! His deep beautiful tan!! And his beautiful white teeth!! He shook my hand thanking me for taking the tour to my chagrin!! Silently hoping my mother would keep quiet about me not wanting to go on the tour to this beyond handsome man shaking my hand!! Although he was a senior citizen by then ,he really caught my attention in those 5 minutes and he was definitely a head turner !! I was a twenty something year old and I have met many actors growing up in Los Angeles yet I am still impressed by Mr Heston's physical appearance and those unusually blue eyes. When I met Tony Curtis on a set , he had the same unusual blue eyes too but Chuck still was more striking!!!

A co-worker told me many years ago that when he worked in Los Angeles as a nurse he walked in on Heston (who was a patient) and greeted him with a pointing finger and an ominous "LET MY PEOPLE GO" and had him laughing at his antics, so he definitely had a sense of humor.

I support the 2nd Amendment as well, MOL, and CH was neither moronic, nor a gun nutjob. But he did support the 2nd Amendment rights. And Heston was very active in support of US troops all over the world, having visited our men in over a dozen different countries. He also donated his time, free, to narrate many US govt videos. You are a petty little anti-gun nutjob, and I pity you because you will never know how great a man, and actor, Charlton Heston was. Or at least your kind is so blinded by hate that your blinders won't allow you to see the truth.

What year did you first see Ben-Hur? We saw it at Grauman's Chinese Theater, about 2 or 3 months after it premiered. In person I saw Ben-Hur's chariot, with red velvet ropes around it. I reached out with my little hand (I was about four at the time) and touched one of the ropes. I don't remember, but I was told, one of the "humongous" statues during the chariot race was there too. It was only about 3 feet high! We went in about 8 P.M., but it didn't start until around 8:30, then the red curtains pulled back, I was getting sleepy, I fell asleep during, what I called the DEAD part of the movie (I was just a small kid then, what do you want?) when Judah was talking to Esther's in a certain blue room ( before the ruckus started). Later I woke up during the chariot race, when it was over I fell asleep until it was over! Since then, many years later I saw I twice, at a walk-in theatre and Torrance Drive-In ( the drive-in was torn down in the late 1980s). Yes, I stayed awake throughout ... ( saw IT twice)

Really, more lies. No action to actually practice what you preach, just more keyboard clown prints. Instead of being on the front lines protesting or working you are typing inane nonsense, not even good propaganda. You are most amusing, Mohel, but support for the 2nd Amendment is equivalent to support for Freedom of Speech. Which you enjoy by wasting your time here, proving you don't have the courage of your convictions. So you are a little man, while Charlton Heston HAD the courage of his convictions, didn't he? which is why a little bit of refuse like you despises the great man.

Sudhar Son isn’t it incredible how one human being can be such a force of nature and have such a powerful and positive effect on so many across the generations. I first saw Ben Hur in ‘wide screen CinemaScope’ as they called it back then when I was eight years old. The story is so powerful and life changing I have probably seen it fifty or more times since then. Charlton Heston has managed to play and portray many diverse and unique characters but always his heart remains good and pure. Thank you for loving and appreciating this man as much as I do. Namaste

Lies, and more lies, as CH never advocated anything of the kind. 2nd Amendment is a Constitutional Right. So please enlighten us all as to where in the Constitution is it that mass murder is mentioned MOL? You have a lot of hot air and personal attacks, and yet supply no actual proposal to resolve the ills you rant and rave against. So please tell me something that hasn't been tried already and failed?

Most Interadasting, MOL. And your solution to this problem is? .................. waiting, and reading, and see nothing. Wait, maybe you think that posting nasty, pointless comments on You Tube will solve this? Or perhaps you hope to inflame opinion against 2nd Amendment supporters such that violence is their reward, right? so you are fighting the fight against gun violence by using MOL violence? hmmmmm seems like an extreme case of Derangement syndrome, which is brought on by an overdose of Leftist propaganda designed to instill such fear and hate. Good Luck with that. So pull that thumb out of your brainhole, and type out the answer for us all?

I'll tell you this... he was a HANDSOME son of a bitch. That chiseled face, his towering form, that resonant voice. I can't think of ANYONE else playing Ben Hur or Moses. Can you see Tom Cruise, or Leonardo DiCaprio, or Ryan Gosling (or Reynolds), or Johnny Depp, or any other top Hollywood star driving that 4-horse chariot around that Roman race track 20 times?? The mere thought of it makes me laugh! The only "tablet" these wannabees would be holding are made by Apple, not made of stone. Many people may have disagreed with Heston's politics later in life, but his presence and contribution to Hollywood's glorious film history is indisputable and truly without peer. RIP.

You laid out to the point the demise of Hollywood "maleness" where you have MEN up on the big screen so pleasing to look upon and knowing that they were decent MEN, Heston a MAN, a respectable MAN with standards and a sense of decency that would be mocked in this present time of our history.

Very cruel of Michael Moore to insult the elder Heston in his own home in movie, BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE. Michael Moore is very against Mr. Heston's pro 2nd Amendment stand, but didn't have to disrespect him!

@@Nimgimmer1492 I only saw "Khartoum" a few times, but it was slow moving with hardly any action at all, even that movie critic, Leonard Maltin, said it was dull.

Wonderful Actor and Great Gentleman. I was lucky enough to see him on stage in Manchester starring inCaine Mutiny Court Martial where he kindly signed his Book for me. He received great reviews for his performance and couple of years later was back on the Stage for the part of Sir Thomas Moore in A Man For All Seasons and afterwardsI was invited to remain in my seat till all other patrons had left. Mr Heston came from his Dressing Room and spent considerable time with My Wife & I chatting about his career, posing for photographs with me and signing many items for my collection. Be many years before a man of such stature will be on Film, Stage, TV etc., and the willingness to spend time with his admiters

I love Heston for another reason entirely: Years on when his old friend and co-star from THE PRESIDENT'S LADY, Susan Hayward was gravely ill, she made an appearance at the Oscar ceremony. Decked out in a magnificent green Nolan Miller gown, red wig, and jewelry, she looked every inch the princess. No one in the audience could have suspected just how ill she was - her wheelchair was offstage in the wings. Heston walked her across the stage, to the enthusiastic applause of the audience. He steadied her and made her look so lovely, in that final appearance. This took a very special kind of generosity and kindness. We would lose him to Alzheimer's. How tragic and, ironic. Lucky we are to have his films to watch and enjoy..

Here in the Philippines, we have Fernando Poe Jr. or FPJ, the king of Philippine movies but in Hollywood or in all the world, we have that great man Charlton Heston as the most gifted and successful actor. Really blessed.

No one other then Heston could've played Moses. That character had to have the presence of Charlton Heston to make him real to the audience & only Yul Brynner could've played pharaoh. Perfect casting. Luckily these 2 actors were available.
