If anyone gets to actually talk to these doctors, please ask them why they insist on using the phrase "near death" when it's actually "dead & back again". Could it be medical malpractice suit fears? Sometimes, it actually ISN'T a doctor's fault, believe it or not. I worked in 5 hospital emergency rooms for 10 years, usually 2-3 at a time. Miracles do happen. And what about another incorrect phrase "near miss" when CLEARLY it was a miss, not a collision, in regards to car accidents & plane crashes, etc. I already asked Webster dictionary in an email how many decades do we have to wait for Webster corrections!

@@Kubaz1000 You know how the media generally portrays us. Either as frustrated doctors with an inferiority complex, like the character in that terrible film "Paper Mask", or as silent background nobodies like in Dr Kildare.

Not noticed a negative media portrayal but I havn't seen either of examples mention. 24 Hrs A/E has made me wonder if I could be a Porter; the nearest I'd get to helping in a Hospital (without heavy responsibility as Nurse /Dr!) There are female Porters & I've always been unusually strong -but not as fit, or young as I was, & I've no patience for rudeness; if people abuse the staff or just arn't grateful & polite, I'd want to tip them out the window.. maybe I'm not so suited.. 🤣

Porters play such a absolutely huge roll in the hospital! I was being moved to ICU and it was during covid and I was shaking teeth shattering from fear! My heart was very weak I was very sick and the porter help my hand in the lift and just prayed for me {with me I should say} it was the most human contact I had along with another nurse after my heart attack. The porter gave me such comfort I am even crying typing lol

Here you are Bobby, I made a transcript for you. Porter: Sorry buddy there, watch your back there please! How are you doing love, you alright? Patient: **inaudible** Porter: Cool, man! "I'm the best driver. They're not going to like to hear that, but yeah, bring it on! " Porter: **singing** _You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away from them, know when to run._ Alright, let's get you back around the corner! I like how they drive. Nice and smooth. "I walk circles around a lot of the other porters there, I do walk circles around them. So, that's just me. And I'm a very, very, very toned person; very fit. Yes I am! Very fit. I say I do about 25 miles a week, easy. " Porter: Driver, best one in the world, best one in King's College. **whistles* * "No collision, not even one. Not even a half one." Porter: Alright Bud, take it easy ok? Patient: Alright, thanks a lot. Porter: Cool, I'll probably take you to the ward later on. Patient: Alright see you later. Porter: Alright man. Nurse: Thank you, very much. Porter: No problem, nurse. Announcer: _Can I have a porter to resus (resuscitation) please? Porter to resus._ Porter: They're very confused down there. 187 yeah? Nurse: (to other nurse) I can't help with that sorry. Porter: Porter to resus? Nurse: Yes please, yes. Patient: **murmurs* * Nurse: **inaudible reply** Porter: Hi. Patient: Hi, good evening. Porter: Nurse, does he have to stay like this? Yeah? Nurse and patient: yeah. Porter: Is it alright to raise it up a little bit? yeah? Patient: **murmurs** Gotta stay flat. Porter: Yep. "When I was 16-17 years old, I had a sports car. And I was a maniac behind the wheel. **laughs** I didn't kill anybody, but I almost killed myself. " Porter: Let's see, are you disconnected? Yep... "When I used to live in the Cayman Islands, that's where I'm originally from, I had an IROC Z28 t-top [car]. And it had a big, 350, 5-speed transmission shift. This thing was a beast! I was playing Nirvana Unplugged, that's what I was listening to. Took a corner doing 90 miles an hour. I lost control of the car, and it smashed into a pole. And it flipped over and it landed on its top. I can remember spinning over and seeing the radio turning with me. If you ever seen the car, you would've said "No way, man, there's no way he came out of there alive!" All I remember seeing was a big white, bright, _bright_ white light. There was a little triangle, and I went towards it. And, I just remember, I felt like a snake coming out of the car. I picked up my rear-view mirror, and I looked in it. My eyes was... my eyes were humongous. I had a lot of hair on my head as well, and a big old afro thing that had twigs in it. So... Definitely God stuck His hand out there and said; _"It's not your turn yet. It's not time for you, there's something else I want you to do first before I take you from here."_ and He saved me that night. That was my reality check. And ever since then, I went straight. **laughs** Oh yeah! Straight-A kid, no problem! **laughs** A reality check... It does take a reality check sometimes to wake a person up. "

*If the brain produces consciousness, then how?* The brain is incredibly sophisticated in its structure, with about 10 billion neurons, each of which has about ten thousand connections with other neurons. Still, all these neurons being made of non-conscious molecules are themselves non-conscious. Their interactions lead merely to the variation of their electrochemical states, which don’t produce or even refer to consciousness. The claim that matter can produce something - consciousness - that experiences matter is beyond not only experimental demonstration but also theoretical explanation. That’s why Noble Laureate Sir John Eccles, stated, “I believe that there is a fundamental mystery in my existence, transcending any biological account of the development of my body (including my brain).” If the brain produces consciousness, then how does the consciousness maintain its continuity and integrity despite the continuous death and Birth of brain cells? Each day, we lose an average of one thousand neurons in the brain. How could a speaking robot continue to speak if the hard disk containing its speech program were getting continuously deleted? That’s why scientist, Dr Michael Cremo, eloquently states: “That consciousness and its mental contents can maintain their integrity in the face of such massive random disruptions in the brain circuitry that supposedly creates consciousness requires quite a leap of faith. It is more reasonable to suppose that the unitary consciousness of a living entity is an irreducible feature of reality and that it simply uses the brain as an instrument.” Could the brain be merely transmitting and not producing consciousness? This view, postulated by the renowned psychologist William James, is illustrated through way a prism transmits light. When a prism is damaged, the light passed through it gets distorted. Similarly, when the brain gets damaged, the consciousness passed through it gets impeded. Let’s consider another example of a businessperson using a computer to keep inventory. If the computer gets damaged, he would be impaired in his stock-keeping. Similarly, if the brain is akin to a computer-like instrument for the consciousness, then the consciousness would be impaired in expressing itself. No wonder, another Noble Laureate, Dr Wilder Penfield, after four decades of research, concluded, “The brain is a computer …. But it is programmed by something that is outside itself.” That something is the soul, which the Bhagavad-gita (2.17) states “pervades the body with consciousness.” *Why some people think consciousness comes from the brain - and why it doesn’t* A child may think that milk comes from a bottle in the fridge or from a rack in the supermarket. We may laugh at such naivete, but some brains today are succumbing to a similar naivete about, curiously, the brain. Because consciousness manifests through the brain, they presume that consciousness originates in the brain. Undoubtedly, the brain is millions of times more complex than a fridge or a supermarket, or even the most complex computer. The brain’s sheer complexity gives it a certain mystique which can make us believe that it gives rise to consciousness. However, even when functioning in full throttle, the brain does nothing except process electrochemical signals through its various neural networks. Due to its complexity, it can process those signals super-fast, but they are far different from the various aspects of consciousness - thinking, feeling and willing, for example. To believe that the brain’s complexity produces consciousness is like believing that if someone learns to run faster and faster, they will one day recite Sanskrit poetry fluently. Extraordinary expertise in one area doesn’t automatically equate with ability in other areas. To give another example, a CD might play a score from a magnificent orchestra, but that doesn’t mean the CD’s physical structure or digital tracks contain an orchestral band. Similarly, the brain performs phenomenal neurochemical activity, but conscious experience is something different which merely manifests through the brain, as music manifests through the CD. Pertinently, the Bhagavad-gita (15.10) states that we need the eyes of knowledge to see how consciousness is separate from the body but is currently entrapped in the body and is acting in various ways through the body, including the brain. Gita wisdom stands ready to provide us those metaphorical eyes of knowledge.
