Sea fishing in the UK is a very popular tradition and activity. With charter boats in almost every port around the UK it is a brilliant way for people to get sea fishing from a boat. With the right skipper and the right boat it can also be a wonderful introduction to deep sea fishing and a way to learn. Thas was About 10 years ago there were so many fish it was incredible and the ultimate charter boat is in Grand canaria called cavalier I had a 600 pounder blue marlin in my first week out there in July check it out 😂😂😂!!! You'll love it

John, what is the minimum landing size for turbot? There sure are a lot of dogfish and rays there. Do those rays have tail stingers?

Lots of shark species, no these rays are technically skates, so no barbs.

We do have stingrays in the UK, which potentially can do you a lot of damage. There are quite a few in the North Thames Estuary, particularly where the Blackwater and Colne rivers join the sea.

We don’t. They are far too valuable to eat. Pound per pound they are 3 times more than edible crabs. 🤣

weymouth is a good place for charter fishing john especialy fishing the portland race for the bass we used to go out on a boat caled Katy ann but dont think its there anymoor but there is a few good boats there

Well you won’t be seeing it here much over the next few weeks. It’s the best time of year for boat fishing - and every shore mark within 100 miles from here is rammed with tourists atm. It’s just the way it goes this time of year. 🤷🏻‍♂️

There are lots of sharks around the UK coast, but they are not interested in humans. The worst threat when swimming is probably jelly fish. You have to be careful handling dogfish, as they can wrap themselves around your arm and remove a lot of skin.

In a chip shop the fish they call skate are rays, mostly thornback. Actual common skate and huge and inedible. I believe there is a difference in the shape of the nose between rays and skate.

Great video John!!! Can't beat those days when the unexpected species turn up. Shallow uptide fishing is one of the main tactics I use when fishing my local marks around the Humber, you should give it a look in the winter for Cod fishing on the charters.

Absolutely brilliant on the turbot I don't know if you recall the story I told of me rigging n baiting for my m8 a he reeled in a plaice about the sizes, same thing no bite indicated I thought the bait much have come off come off but it had just slowly engulfed it and stayed still. Brilliant catch

I find dogfish delicious. Bleed and fillet them right after catching then straight onto a bag and onto ice. Keeps the meat firm and tasty.
