I'm a 78 year old cockney lady living in co.durham. about 7 years ago me and my husband took our grandson to Lindisfarne for the day . There was a bloke on the street there playing and singing There ain't no pleasing you while playing guitar with a huge crowd around him. It's one of my favourite songs but never ever expected to hear it being sung on lindisfarne. I started to sing along with him and he called me over to join him so he was singing it with a Geordie accent and me with a broad cockney accent. It went down real good and I can honestly say it was one of the vest and unique days of my life. So sad Chas is no longer with us with his great voice. God bless you me old mate xx

HA ! Nice one. To paraphrase Pete Townsend - for this song ALONE Chas'n'Dave (& the drummer) deserved to be carried round in Sedan Chairs for the rest of their lives. Sad that Chas is no longer with us, but fond memories of a London that no longer exists. Cheers from an 'up Norff B***ard'.

I was in a pub near Charing Cross last night, The Marquis. Loads of vinyl and a turntable behind the bar and the barman puts this on. Twenty or so blokes, most of us wearing Fred Perry’s just burst into song. Quite a sight. Brilliant song.

I was stood at a bus stop in Weymouth about 25 years ago when Chas and Dave pulled up in a car asking where they could find a curry house. I lied and said it was the way I was going and I'd show them if I could have a lift. They knew I was pulling their legs and laughed, gave some kind words and went to get a curry after I told them the right way. Absolute gentlemen, I hope they enjoyed that curry.

That reminds me ... When I was a kid, I had a butcher's round on Saturday mornings, where I'd deliver meat for the local butcher. One of the customers was Jack Warner of Dixon of Dock Green fame. One morning I delivered his Sunday roast and when he answered the door I took my chance: bent both my knees and said "Morning all". He humoured me by laughing and gave me a little memory to cherish for a lifetime. You should have done it! :-)

Three years ago, New Year’s Eve, Chas and Dave sang this on Jools Holland’s show. This song, with it’s swing in the melody, suited Chas’s husky voice very well. Bill, my husband, and I watched the show at home and felt uplifted by the song. Chas, as well as Bill and I, would have no idea that the singing duo would be separated by Chas’s death, nor me by my husband’s, and in the same year and almost to the day! Be at peace both of you and Chas- keep on with the music! It would be a great shame not to.

Yes. I can't persuade my husband as he can't get past the cockney boy image but these guys were class. Anyone Albert Lee rates, I rate. I think we lost Chas recently. Sad loss
