As the kids get a bit older, we’ve talked about traveling abroad but, like many families, trying to do it on a budget seems daunting! Some other family travel channels we follow take a more glamorous/sheltered (and expensive) approach but I want something more “real” for the family. I work with a lot of guys from Fiji. Easily the most genuine, kind, and generous people I've ever met. But they don't put up with any crap and none of them are weak. Very proud people. I tried Cassava root as well. It's a root from a shrub that many people eat around the world. Very tasty. But, you have to be caeful. If the root is not prepared correctly it can become toxic during digestion. One thing I haven't tried is the Kava. They all love it. One day I'll take up my Friend Kilamatua's offer and try it. Great informative video! Currently planning a Fiji trip for June 2019. Looking into the awesome Fiji experience package. Would you suggest packing light with just a big bag or is there room for suitcases? Our group is doing an extended stay in Fiji and New Zealand and want to know how the storage area is at most of these resorts/hostels? Obviously the private rooms would have lots of room to store suitcases and belongings but what about the flyer cruise boat and the dorms? Thanks.

We are in Labasa, it’s known as the retirement town, hardly any crime here but it’s not like viti levu with tourists and the buzz its clam and a beautiful place. Hey Chas Bruns, awesome video. I'm planning to go to Fiji this January and wanted to know... is it not bombarded with school kids and families during their summer holidays? Also, what would you say is the best way to get invited to one of those amazing fijian parties with the kava? The locals look like wonderful people.

The main island can be, but not if you go out to the smaller islands. And as far as hanging out with the locals go, most of the staff at the hostels and hotels are local Fijians. Introduce yourself! They'll invite you over to hang out. You won't have to ask. That's just how they are. They are extremely kind and generous. Just make sure to throw them some money if they cook you dinner or give you kava because you don't want them paying for YOUR vacation. ( :

Loved this video, Chas! Amazing cruise for $100 with all those inclusions -- must try if I ever go to Fiji before I die. Oh, you had me feeling old, man, with that Raymond Burr moment. Not sure if you were joshing, but in case you weren't: Legendary actor Raymond Burr played the titular role in "Perry Mason" (in the 1960s through the 1980s or 1990s). He starred in "Ironside." He acted in countless movies, and Hitchcock made him a "would-be" murderer in REAR WINDOW.

Lots cheaper in Thailand or Philippines. Very expensive in fiji. Things about three times the cost they should be. Especially land. For people earning $2 a hour. House block is 1 million. Thats like 20 million for them. Thats because most land is zoned native only. Changing this would fix most problems in fiji.

Really good coverage of the main island. Iam from Fiji and i think you visited the best attractions on the main island, from sigatoka (coral coast) where the beach house is, and then Suva ( Capital) and lastly Nadi ( Tourism capital ) You also visited the islands, where the true picture of Fiji lies.
