This is bigger than you think. Pp lounges are horrible, so the restaurant access was a key advantage over venture x. Keep in mind venture x af is -5 vs csr at 250

I just got the card just paid the $550 and then pay the 150 for my family to have the priority pass We just got our cards less than a month ago. We bought this card specifically for the use of the restaurants in the cafés in our summer vacation now we won’t even have it. We spent $4000 to get them out. Now all I wanna do is dump the card as soon as I can possibly use the points and everything else Chase office not to be trusted, and they make me angry.

No great loss. The ability to get a free burger a mile away from my gate isn't why I carry a premium credit card. They need to improve their lounge access and it seems they are doing that. I wasn't even aware that Chase was directly partnering with airline lounges. One visit to the Sapphire club at La Guardia was worth more than all the occasional free fast food I got from PP restaurants.

PP restaurants was one of the major draws to the card and it is what separated the CSR from the other premium cards and now they won't even have that advantage anymore. If you don't have a Sapphire Lounge at your home airport, why bother upgrading from the CSP or getting the card at all? Sure they're starting to roll out more Sapphire Lounges but at the end of the day, there's still only 5 Sapphire Lounges compared to 25 Centurion/Escape Lounges. I think until they fully build out their lounge network, which may take years, they will need to refresh the card no doubt in order to stay competitive with the rest of the premium cards.

Exactly. If you’re flying into and out of a lot of small airports, like Des Moines, Iowa, or Charlottesville, Virginia, you ain’t going to be getting a Sapphire lounge anytime soon!

Its NOT fine. As somebody with a home airport without a legit lounge but a decent PP restaurant (Detroit). This justified the $250. Heres the thing. Nobody’s opening up lounges in lounge desserts. JFK, LGA, LAS, etc. already have crap ton of options. CSR - I’m out.

Your card is no longer doing business with Chase. And let the customer service agent know that you want that documented because they’re going to have a meeting here shortly and turn all that information over to upper management.

Yeah, Denver centurion lounge is going to be crazy. I would normally skip the lounge if there was a line and just go to one of the PP restaurants. The restaurants would have 10-15 tables that had the CSR card.

This will definitely play a factor in whether or not I product change my bonvoy ballast to the Ritz-Carlton card! I know you said this isn't Doom and gloom, but losing the restaurant access is going to be pretty sad in my particular scenario. Sometimes some of these lounges are so packed that I wouldn't even be able to enjoy them, at least the restaurant option was a good backup. At least I have some travel before July 1st so I'm definitely going to take advantage for sure LOL

I travel about once per month. While it doesn’t change my thoughts on the effective annual fee. It does hit a bit, it’s so nice to grab a snack/ water bottles while I’m working a bit or even on a layover was clutch.

Speaking from an SFO perspective, all I can say is Yankee Pier, Giant’s Clubhouse, Lark Creek, and Mustard’s are going to turn into ghost towns. The average non-PP passenger would have to be out of their mind to pay “list price” for the quality of food served. My usual breakfast at these places (all run by the same airport vendor, BTW) was Sysco eggs and frozen potato cubes which rang up to very near the $28 benefit. I would have paid about $12 in “real life” had I not used PP. It’s truly “bar food” quality. I believe the whole business model was to make just a few bucks from PP for each visit (but huge volume) while also opportunistically skimming off whatever they could from the few “full price” customers that were willing to pay the 1000% profit margins from the menu prices (much lower volume).

It’s def a blow. The CSR had 3 things that made it special 1.5X in portal, best in class insurance and PP-restaurants. It’s losing something of note. I’m sure the CSR lovefest will temper. The Ritz card will be unaffected. Perhaps some minor bellyaching.

Huge difference when compared CSR with C1 VX and Amex Plat when they dropped the restaurant. Amex has many other networks on top of the PPS, and C1 VX has a effective annual fee of $0 (Amex also has enough coupons to cover a good amount of the annual fees)

Great overview. The removal of restaurants on the Priority Pass happened to Amex in 2019 & Capital One Venture X in 2023. I assume it may not be profitable for the restaurants because I know I've taken a lot of advantage of the restaurant credits in the past. This is a bummer but I'll still use the CSR because the other perks of the Priority Pass with the Reserve still provide a ton of value.

As someone with a PP restaurant in a home airport this is a big blow and knocks the CSR down unless they add a benefit, feature or multiplier. As of now my CSR getting downgraded to a CSP come renewal time unless they add something useful

We only have priority pass restaurants accessible at our airport. I don't understand why it would only matter at 5x visits though (0:57) just one visit with a +1 is a free $56 credit. Every single visit is a 10.2% discount on the AF, and a single round trip flight can hit 4x. (1x on departure and arrival outbound, 1x on departure and arrival of the return flight)

The 5x visits to restaurants with a companion (the $56 credit) would cancel out the effective Annual Fee of $250 left after the Travel Credit if you used no other credit on the CSR.

US Bank Altitude Reserve includes Priority Pass Restaurants. I believe Citi Prestige (discontinued), UBS Visa Infinite and Venture X Business are the other remaining cards with Priority Pass that can be used for restaurants. Outside chance that Wells Fargo and/or Citi (revamped)could step up and offer Priority Pass Select with restaurants.

So my guess is they have to revamp this card so might as well cut this now while they revamp credits. I went to 3 restaurants in Mia, SFO, and Seattle and the Miami and SFO restaurants were great and Seattle was good but only had appetizers and beer. It sucks but not the end of the world. I'd value this at maybe 100 bucks a year assuming 2 restaurant visits for 2 people on a round trip 🤷🏾‍♂️.

Hi. Is a refresh of the Chase CSP and/or CSR confirmed or is it just speculation? The CSR is one of the cards I’m contemplating (if offered on an elevated SUB). Not going to lie, the Sapphire lounges are a prime reason for that consideration (my hub is NYC) but I do wish the card offered other benefits other than DoorDash and Instacart. For sure, the 300 travel credit and awesome travel protections are great but it would be nice to offset the annual fee in other ways as I think I may only occasionally use the travel portal to book domestic flights.

So anything about CSP and CSR refreshes are purely speculation for now. Both cards however NEED to be refreshed. There’s always Chase offers that can help defray the costs of the Annual Fee as well as additional points (and points used to save on travel) in Chase’s shopping portal if you purchase things you would buy normally. Lyft Pink may also be of use (Citi bikes in NYC) as it credits two years of membership to you and you make 10x per ride. Just something to consider for now. But I think a refresh is coming.

It really pisses me off I just got the Chase sapphire reserve card. I’ve got it specifically for the priority pass and its perks that chase sapphire reserve offered. How dare they pull it out from under me when I had to pay $550 card $75 a person for the For my priority pass for each person over the primary card holder. Which I did got my cards a month ago for them to screw us over and not deliver what they sold us.

Especially when they’re generally in the Terminals I’m not in unlike the program they have now, if you haven’t looked at it recently you can pretty much eat for free at any airport you’re at. And go to lounges that are far more available than the ones that will be just with the Chase Sapphire lounges, which are not that prevalent

Agreed that the restaurants will definitely be negatively affected. I recently flew out of T8 at JFK, which has a PP restaurant. The fact that they were a PP restaurant was prominently displayed & the host ask people if they had PP as they entered & a ton of people actually did, which probably told me a lot of CSR people (I’m guessing it was mainly CSR) knew & were taking advantage of it. W/CSR out, how many PP cards still have restaurants? A small minority?

Freedom Flex and Unlimited have a dining category. But Chase Dining is only on the Sapphire Reserve (and I believe the JPM Reserve) it’s a 10x category.

The chase’s priority pass access was great because it gives you restaurants and chase lounges which allowed it to pair well with the Amex plat. Now that it’s losing restaurants, there’s no reason to keep both cards anymore. There’s centurion lounges in every airport where chase has one, so for me, getting the card is moot.
