I have to say that it comes in God's time, not ours. 32 years ago when I was married to my first husband, he broke my heart and almost killed me and I felt exactly like this song. He brought me nothing but pain. When I thought there was nothing left for me, and I stopped looking for love, when I least expected it, God sent me my second husband who saved me from myself and 32 years later we are still married and still madly in love with one another. Man this song every time takes me back to the same breakup from years ago. You move on, you date new people and if you're lucky, you eventually fall in love with someone who actually deserves it. But the pain from the kind of relationship/breakup this song speaks of never leaves you. The lyrics just speak to me and the shame I felt when I couldn't let go of somebody who treated me like trash, used me until they left me for somebody else. I refuse to talk about that ex and my friends/family know not to ever bring them up. I've never even spoken on this relationship to my therapists so it is songs like this that allow me to feel and reflect and heal. This song has been on my most listened to songs of the year for each of the last three years and is still genuinely one of my all time favorites. The breakup was over 5 years ago and it still feels like an open wound.
