There really is no Officer versus Enlisted. Each career path is dependent on each other. When one goes through OCS, it is the enlisted that trains and grooms the candidate. In a company or platoon there is a commander (Officer) and his/her enlisted counter part. In reality the only difference between officer and enlisted are the perks of being an officer, you get a greeting of the day, better housing, and more pay. However, if a company fails, the commanding officer is held responsible

I have known many guys from my Basic, Infantry, and Airborne School days who started with me become great NCOs and Officers. Some of those NCOs and Officers started as Privates in my team, squad, and platoon. Some of them I had to kick them out of their racks, yell at them, make them dig, and give them a "smoking session" that even last a few hours or days for messing up. I also led some of them into combat too. Once they either leave me by going to another unit or leave the Army. They take something from me good or bad. Those guys got promoted in their units or went to other options like Ranger, SF, Drill Sergeant, or Recruiter as later NCOs. The handful that became Officers indeed became a special breed in my opinion. The Officers that I knew as a Private then to NCO varied. The two who came West Point were great because I was their Radio Operator and taught me the basics of the OP Order, terrain model, and public speaking an instructing. The ROTC guys straight from college to Infantry had to be teaspoon fed by all the platoon's NCOs and get an ass ripping occasionally by the CO and XO. My favorite guys were the former enlisted who later became NCOs and got commissioned through OCS, ROTC, or prior enlisted Infantry NCOs through West Point. These Officers made life so easy and made things work because they know how it works. That is from what I have experienced and saw from 23 years.

Totally 100% agree with being a good leader is one that is not afraid to do the task with you! So many bosses (in my experience in the civilian world) will tell you to do something while they go into the office because "very important paper work" needs to be done.

Officers who commission through Officer Candidate School do go to Basic Training like everyone else, but as Specialist. We go to BCT, OCS, BOLC, and then any other special schools. ROTC and the academies don't do basic.

I just graduated army basic combat training. Made many great friends. Great comeradery . Have a group chat. I'm a private and have many private freinds. Got smoked. I'm on a course to be a 2nd lt in a few years. Going to basic has really made think of wanting to be enlisted but I want to be an astronaut. But to be honest, enlisted side seems much fun. Especially seeing the drill sgts together. They were good friends. Plus, I honestly think and see that the enlisted do more of leading and inspiring than my company commander.

Make sure you have a solid childcare system setup before you join the military so when or if you get deployed there isn't an issue. If thats not an issue, if I were you I would go enlisted, if your a stellar airman, smart academically, and get your commands approval you could be eligible for programs within the military that will send you to finish your degree and become an officer (thats how it worked in the navy) However this path isn't guaranteed.

beautiful2 finish your bachelors and try to commission as an officer. Even if you don’t get to commission as an officer, you have a better shot of commissioning with a bachelors degree. They’ll also offer you a sign up bonus, student loan forgiveness, and you go in as a higher rank enlisted.

Someone told me it all depends on what you want to do in the Army. If you want to be boots on the ground and see combat action then NCO is the way to go and allows you to get more combat experience. If you are an officer, you might get lucky and get deployed but only for a short while until they throw you behind a desk. Is that true? Some people want that kind of job that involves combat. What are the chances of getting deployed somewhere like Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc places where there is combat? And would something like Special Forces or Ranger help you get there?
@theknglionheart4202
@theknglionheart4202 8 жыл бұрын
N Velasquez every job is deployable but not all are combat zone, you're not going to war because there really isn't one right now. think about it do soldiers needs food? Yes so a cook in the army will get deployed. Do people needs paperwork done? Yes so they'll be deployed. being an officer is hard training and special forces is harder
@nvsnake1489
@nvsnake1489 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clearing that up. But my main question is still unanswered. There may not be an actual big war going on but I know for sure there are boots on the ground in places like Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. There is a frontline somewhere. The media does not completely cover it and the fact that we pulled out around 2014 allowed many terrorist organizations to move back in. The rise of ISIS for an example. Do you get to pick where you go? or does the military decide then end up sending you to S.Korea to do not much at all? Is it true that officers spend less time on the frontline as opposed to NCOs? Im well aware how difficult SFAS is and to be a combat officer would probably require Ranger School. I meet a guy who was squared away, had Special Forces tab, Airborne tab, and Ranger tab, so I know it is possible to achieve. SF specialize in training and advising other foreign armed security forces like the Kurds and Iraqi golden division actively right now.
@theknglionheart4202
@theknglionheart4202 8 жыл бұрын
Well if you really wanted to go into the front line then yes special operations is the way to go especially Seals but its just super random so you may never see any front line action in your time with special forces or you may go on a special operation to another country. Also you don't really get a choice where to get stationed at unless its your 2nd term in the service then you get an option for a duty station also you'll never be able to pick where to deploy to for combat Hope that cleared it up but you need to be in top shape endurance wise to get to special forces
@nvsnake1489
@nvsnake1489 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information. If I was going to join I would probably enlist and aim for 18X. SF don't always fight on the frontline but mostly train, supervise and assist other units. It is always difficult explaining the reasons why I might want to do that kind of job and at times I'd rather not try to. Someone has to do it but not just anyone, only a current kind of person can handle the weight of that responsibility and duty. It is a matter of having the right mindset from what I was told. I'm well aware how insane SFAS and Ranger School is. In addition, it would probably take years to completely finish all the training phases and courses. But I think I have the guts if I really wanted to go for it. This path is a full commitment kind of career and a damn hard one on top of that.

NV SNAKE I kind of have the same route that u may of taken for my future military career. I want to see some combat but I was planning to take the officer route through rotc but enlist first for basic so ik more and get that respect. If commissioned Officer wouldn’t be what I expected I think I’d try and go sf, or ranger School. So with that being said, is commission officer a waste for me and prolly not for me or would it be fine?

Staff Sergeant in the U.K. is actually a step higher than a U.S. Army SSG (which is a step higher than a USAF SSgt.) Part of how quickly you get promoted will depend on which MOS you are in. Some have lower promotion point cutoffs than others.

Hey, so I have some Army officer questions! I'm currently in Air Force ROTC but considering the Army as a backup plan. I was wondering what you could tell me about your experience and how hard it is to go into intel? I was told that it's not easy and that you will usually be put into artillery, infantry, Chem or armor instead. I was also wondering mostly about the officer lifestyle/duty stations and maybe some cool things that one can do such as airborne school and all that stuff or if it's just for specific career fields.

Enlisted do all of the dirty works and they cannot(in my country) be General,Admiral,and Air Marshal. Officer do less dirty work but they do the stratagy stuff, they usually work in the office if they are not in the front. They can be General Rank aswell. Pro and cons of Enlisted, Pro if you like war and like shooting stuff you might like to join Enlisted. Cons they do all the dirty works and usually Very Hard to be general rank. Officer, pros they are respected and can be general. They usually live safely. Cons that being an officer is very hard and it took 4 years to gradaute. Note: This is my prespective and this only applies in my country.

@neil_hamel 8 жыл бұрын
csg990 I think by "pulling rank" he means that you don't need justification to tell someone what to do. If you're a platoon sergeant and you tell a private to do something, they execute and don't ask why. Where as in the civilian world, if you tell someone to do something, they might give you attitude or ask for a justification instead of following orders like they are told.

I know what it is lol I'm enlisted in the Marine Corps. I see it as a flaw because I've seen so many junior Marines have excellent ideas on how to accomplish the mission but are ignored because a Sgt told him he's a boot.

true and I don't think asking "why" is a bad thing. For example, if everyone in your platoon is getting 300 PFTs by following program X, and then a new LT/CAPT decides to change it to program Y, "why?" seems like a good question. Why change what has made you successful?

KASHFITNESS it depends on the duty assignment. You have unaccompanied tours where you cannot bring your spouse and there are PCS moves where you can bring your spouse with you (and some where you can't). There is a ton of other types of assignments, so the real answer is "it depends". This goes for officers and enlisted, it makes no difference.

Okay thanks you very much. Thank you for your service my man, I truly mean it being that people say it out of respect. I say it out of meaning and respect. You did what few do and just because you might not have went to combat or even if you did you still hold a place as a U.S. Veteran.

In the navy there's the LDO program, which turns petty officers/CWOs into commissioned officers based on their area of expertise. But they're extremely rare.

Don't quote me, but I think you have to be at least an E5/SGT. That depends on your MOS, time-in-rank and a lot of other factors. I would say at least four years if I am guesstimating.

Not uncommon in the infantry world. Usually just due to a lack of E7's at the BN level, but I've seen plenty of E6's lead a platoon.

Jump in and say it master mason with out the G in civilian organization. The resource limit is the door to the office. And therefore the crew XYZ. But at the end of the day 11B is 11B Not because they're 11B Because there generals doing general labor.... No matter how you look at Box A or B. ∆•B... Volts, work, amps... Hell dark matter and the expansion of the of the universe Companies get lensed all the time in the field... Orders are orders... In the bluestone mill there's not a big difference between manager and Sawyer... π under the curve √-1 = i Remember tow people can occupy the same physically but they're both people... The question becomes given information and the expansion "officer"via compactification"nco" box's Are those positions on a physical differential for training... X officers X ncos X total number of troops X costs and training Over Results for physical form... I would assume the military has some things worked out trial and error... GREEN DONT STOP.
