Let's be honest, the players are paid mercenaries now. There is no commitment or pride for the universities any more. It's all about how much you want to pay for the players as they have an open door to come and go as they please. How can the schools build a program that progresses for the next 2-3 years if your players are not going to stay? The whole NIL and transfer portal blew up in our face. It's pathetic to read every day how one of the kids is leaving and we are trying to get this one to replace him. I agree the schools are making a ton of money and the players in some respect had to be paid in some form one way or another, but right now we are a train wreck waiting to happen.

Don’t think our NIL is a joke. It’s been reported USC has solid NIL funding. The problem is the program is a joke right now and no elite player is going to want to come to a 6-6 team seeing a mass exodus in the portal. If this were a 10-2 team that was in the playoffs, you’d probably wouldn’t have an issue with NIL as there would be natural interest. Instead players (both on the roster and potential transfers) are seeing USC as vulnerable and are trying to leverage that to get “overpaid” their market value. USC doesn’t want to play ball and have to overpay a player double what a team like Oregon or Miami might offer them just because we suck, so we’re in a bit of a predicament. If a team like Oregon is spending 25M on their NIL, a team like USC that’s 6-6 is going to have to spend 50M to overcome our the recent on field performance.

This is why I don't get hyped or excited about any verbal commits. When I see a commit I basically say, "yaaaa, whatever. It's not like there's any real loyalty." Kind of interesting that USC fans would complain about loyalty though. We had Miller Moss who was perhaps the most loyal player on the team, but he got thrown under the bus because he didn't meet their standard and were happy to see him go. Riley made sure he knew the playbook, but actually never had him developed. They same is happening with Maiava. Get use to the fact that most players are loyal to the money and the one's loyal to a program usually get screwed one way or another, so no incentive is being offered to be loyal to a program.
