One of the best Aussie TV shows ever made. Keep it up!

I've been dealing a lot with this planned obsolescence thing lately. All of the appliances in my house that we bought in the 80s at the best compromise between technological progress and companies not being cheap are starting to break down. The appliances we've had for decades are now getting replaced for ones that last maybe a couple of years, and we've resorted to buying the cheapest crappiest ones, just because the better ones are terrible value for their durability...

here a decade later and uh, things are not better, they are worse. sorry

We pay more for EVERYTHING in Australia - Housing depending on the country of comparison, is up to 9 times more expensive, apparently - Power/gas in China for a quarter might cost approx. $30.00 - But in Australia hundreds of dollars - Corporations such as Ikea can sell their products for up to 4 times more than in other countries and distance does not factor into it - So there is no justification for higher prices - Many thanks, always enjoyable.

That reminds me of the CNET study that showed that it was cheaper to fly to America to buy Adobe Photoshop and fly back than it is to buy it from here.

I wish we had that consumer protection law in the USA. But that won't happen. Maybe someone will challenge those laws in court, one day.

I would like both but if had to pick one over the other, then I agree with you.

Regarding the Durability segment, Apple actually did replace my MacBook Pro within two years with the latest MacBook Pro, as I argued that there shouldn't be multiple hardware failures within 2 years for a product that you've paid $2,000 for! Mind you, I had to 'scream and shout' quite a bit to be heard! Having said that, my current MacBook Pro has all sorts of issues unheard of with Apple Macs 10 years ago: power cord that doesn't plug in correctly and causes electrical shocks, mousepad doesn't work at times, screen goes black and has to be restarted, the list goes on! Thank god I don't have an iPhone or iPad too! Oh, Apple, why did you become so greedy and evil???

i actually swear by kmart products. i brought a kettle and a toaster from them for $8 and $9. that was over 7 years ago and they are still working as good as new. where as i have seen more expensive brands like sunbeam, kembrook and even tefal's toaster fail under 2 years.

with the way USA's laws are going, instead of it being consumer protection, it'll be corporate protection......Oh wait, USA probably already has that.

yeah, but, america gave us van halen, metallica, night ranger, motley crue, ratt, quiet riot..........the list goes on. so i think it's ok we have to pay extra for everything but then again, we gave us cold chisel, the angels and AC/DC. we gave the world AC/DC. maybe we are getting ripped off......

Surprisingly, they're not too wealthy. I mean, they make a good living, though not so much that they can just chuck around extra cash 'no worries'.

That's not true at all. A CD here will cut you back 20.00 dollars. Most new records are still 19.99 and further more, if you buy it online, it will still cost about the same as Australia. Considering shipping fees and credit fees. I don't know where you got your research mate, but....that price is wrong. I'd be lucky to find a newly released CD for 10.99
@ThePoohat9 жыл бұрын
they used specific product examples in specific marketplace examples... their research was thorough. why don't you try to purchase the same thing from the same place within the U.S and Australia and do your own comparison, like they did? until then, it is your own research that is at fault.
@WulfLovelace9 жыл бұрын
ThePoohat My own research is at fault. I don't really have the money to buy anything anyway. If you want me to run my own social comparison I will. You going to lend me the money to do so?
@ThePoohat9 жыл бұрын
all good man, i just meant although some CD's may go for $19.99 USD as you said, that is not always the case and the prices displayed within this episode were for specific products, not a standard release price. this is a common thing in australia, not just with music but with all media (films, TV show box sets, video games etc) all of which cost more here than they do elsewhere (even adjusted for the exchange rates). something to do with many complicated licensing agreements i think.
