In this video I will show you how to build a Treble Bleed Circuit using an .001uf Orange Drop Capacitor and a
150k ohm resistor. The treble bleed circuit is great for allowing better tone on your guitar when you cut your volume knob down on your guitar. The treble bleed circuit is easy to make and relatively easy to install. The orange drop capacitor and resistor make a high pass filter that allows more highs to pass through your volume when playing at low volume adding better guitar tone. I add a switch to the circuit to make a switchable on and off treble bleed circuit to keep the existing guitar tone as well. I demo the guitar sound but you need earbuds to get the right sound of listening on a phone. Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching.

For sure man. I meant to subscribe a few weeks ago after I watched your B bender video. How is your design holding up after playing it for awhile? Here's a link to the Tele I mentioned. I'm still actually in the finishing process waiting for it to cure before buffing it. But I already soldered all the electronics so I can just drop them straight in. Check it out if you want and let me know what you think m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10218889144837459&id=1167510021

I saw they sell variable resistors that allow dialing in the exact perfect tone. There's a lot of combinations of values to try out to match your pickups and pots if you just use a cap and resistor. I want a cap with two resistors instead of just one in parallel if I do this

@flatsixx
@flatsixx Жыл бұрын
Hey I know this is a few months old but I thought I’d provide a little clarity on the two resistor comment. Fender uses/sells a tone saver which is actually just an RC circuit comprised of a 1.2nF cap and 150k parallel resistor, all in series with 20k resistor. It’s worth looking into if you’re interested- much cheaper to make your own if you have a little soldering skill.

Thanks for the kind words bud. To be honest, I don’t think there is a difference in the two other than the price and size. Some might say one sounds better than the other but both will work for a treble bleed. I’d like to do a side by side comparison but that’s so hard to do in a video and get an accurate test for everyone’s ears. Hope this helps bud and thanks again.

Hey, just a quick tip to everyone doing this: be real careful when heating the heatshrink around the leads with a hairdryer/heatgun as capacitors generally that are made our polypropylene (like popular orange drops you are using here) generally dont like external heat and change value and set once they cool off..something I learned about components in amps when soldering without something in between like alligator clips or something to dissipate the heat cause it can damage the caps and their intended values. Just use something to cover the cap like some cardboard while applying heat and job done.

Your circuit, which has been around for many years, is sound and effective. I also agree with the component values you've chosen, although I personally would use a 100K resistor on a guitar with 250k pots as I assume your Telecaster has. But the question I have, is why use a $2 orange drop capacitor when a 15 cent ceramic disc capacitor of the same value would do the job equally well. Also, let me interject that using a cap rated for several hundred volts, as you've chosen here, is like using a sledge hammer to crack open a walnut.

@reggiewallace260 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimcatanzaro7808 This entire subject is subjective, but you've missed the point I was making, that being that a $2 Orange drop rated at 100 volts is over kill for this purpose. As for a ceramic cap "getting" RF signals in this circuit, sorry I can't imagine, nor have a ever experienced a situation where a ceramic cap caused enough of an RF problem that it was an issue in a passive guitar circuit. If you have an examples, I'd like to hear about them so long as you have evidence of this type of problem. I stand by my original assertion that a cheap ceramic capacitor is equally effective in a treble bleed circuit -- which is why Fender and PRS, use them for that purpose.

@@jimcatanzaro7808 We were talking about a cap used across a volume pot in a treble bleed circuit inside a guitar -- not amplifier circuits - a horse of a very different color. If we were discussing the pros and cons of different types of capacitors in various applications, that would be an interesting discussion in that context. But I wonder, since you bring it up....exactly how much heat do you anticipate this cap, used in this passive circuit in this guitar is going to have to deal with?
