Both are great. Tried both. Ultimately Epix is just more beautiful and I have no problem with the battery life. I have mine to display off and just simply tap the screen to see the time. Not worth keeping the display on at all time to take a hit on the battery and felt the even though the Fenix was always on, it was a bit too dull anyways and I'd have to tap it anyways to get it to brighten. And if I am dressing up and want to show off the watch, just turn on the AOD. All comes down to preferences. I think if all you do is hike and stay outdoors all the time and no where near a charger, the Fenix is probably the way to go. If you're like probably +90% of users, the Epix is the better choice. Great thing is Garmin gives us choices!

On the topic of red light mode. If you are outside in the dark, your eyes do adapt to the dark. Red light is low energy, so your eyes will not lose it's adaption and your vision in the dark will still be there (or in worst case return after 3-5 minutes), but blue light (high energy light), will screw with your eyes night vision and you can lose your adaption for up to half an hour. What you usually do is to close one eye to retain night vision. The whole blue light and your sleep is also true. Red light is also less likely to wake up others when camping. The feature is most useful in more rural areas, where you aren't affected by artificial lights.

This made my day. As a long time Forerunner, Fenix, and Tactix user (curremtly 7X Sapphire Solar), I’ve been playing with the Apple Watch Ultra with its connected features and nice display, but much reduced sports and fitness attributes. I’m SO glad Garmin is continuing to eat Apple’s lunch, core, seeds and all. The experience of continuously wearing the Garmin devices and getting increasingly personalized data far outstrips the Apple experience, even with additional apps. Now that the Epix Pro has improved battery life as well as the new features, I’ll feel more comfortable adding an Epix to my Garmin setup and (happily) sending the AWU on its way 😅 [I wonder whether Garmin would consider adding Bobbing for Apples as a team activity…]

The two things I still gain from the AWU, is the ability to grab ECG readings for my cardiologist (plus Afib detection). And the ability to leave my phone at home. i bought two and tested both out to see which i liked. I returned the epix pro 2. and kept my fenix 7x pro. Having to twist your wrist to turn on the display for epix was getting too annoying. To negate that i turned on the always on display and ate through battery like no other. I've always been a G shock guy so battery life had to be still somewhat relatable. Came from GBDH1000 to GBDH2000 and now fenix 7x pro and i'm glad i made the switch. Casio seems to lost its ways. I dont ask for much but the small features i do use, i want it to be good. Garmin is light years ahead of casio in terms of app. We will see how durable these garmin lasts though. Depending on that i might go back to g shock. I wear my watch every day and work with it on. I also surf, hike, sleep with it so it tends to go through some beating. So far Fenix 7x pro has been the ideal watch. Especially the dam flashlight. This feature itself got me to switch over. It's the best thing i've thought i didnt need but needed in my life.

To start with which watch you choose, I think you should first choose the size you like the most, then the color. I have big hands and wrists and still choose size 47mm which is not a small size and looks best for me (a bit more like a normal watch I think). When it comes to color, I choose silver as I think it is most reminiscent of a regular nice watch (a matter of taste). Then to the choice between Fenix 7 pro or Epix pro, the choice is Fenix 7 pro (47mm) as the battery life weighs a lot for me as I don't like to charge but also want a bit of a normal nice watch feel and like the dials. I wear the watch all the time, for example training, work and parties and when I sleep.

I upgraded from the Fenix 7X Solar to the Porsche Edition of the Epix 2 four months ago (your Epix 2 review pushed me over the edge on switching…the AMOLED display >> the Fenix battery life) so I don't think I'll be upgrading to the Epix 2 Pro. I find it interesting that these models don't have an EKG feature. I guess maybe that's a feature more suited for average consumer model. I had been an Apple Watch wearer from the 1st Gen. When the Series 8 came out I bought the Nike version day one, but returned it after using it on one or two workouts. It was essentially the same as the Series 7 watch. I switched to the Garmin because I was getting more serious about training, and it was mind blowing the difference in training and performance information and feedback was. Add in long battery life and that the mapping feature is far more advanced, I'll never be going back.

Really strange question: I recently bought the Epix Pro because of one of your badass reviews and you were 100% dead on about everything and this watch is beyond EPIC!!! I absolutely love this watch.....BUT......idk if anyone else is having this happen to them but by the 2nd week of wearing the new EPIX PRO there is a burn on my skin under the body of my watch. I went online and found a bunch of forums about other people experiencing this type of issue. Now some of them say it's the new sensor and some people say it's a cause from the watch gathering dirt under the watch. Just little back story. I take my watch off every day while I shower for that very reason cuz my last Garmin Epix would start to smell weird if I left it on for to long. So now I take it off and wipe it down every single day so I'm very doubtful that it's caused by dirt or bacteria build up. I wanted to ask you because in my personal opinion you're the Garmin Guru and I really don't trust anyone else's opinions or information when it comes to these specific models and the underground info that only the Guru of Gurus would know. So yeah.....is this a sensor burn or maybe they changed the alloys they normally use in the back casing? I've though of every possible cause and before it drove me insane.....I came here to ask the Garmin God's for a trustworthy answer or even just a valued opinion. Either way I still love this watch and I guess I'll just have to deal with the burn and hope my arm doesn't fall off....but it it does fall off....i have a whole other arm to put the EPIX PRO on so burn baby burn! 😂 Thanks again for your hard work and dedication. Garmin owes you BIG TIME cuz I just bought the New Tactix Pro Ballistics to wear until I get this whole EPIX PRO issue figured out, and I only bought it cuz you speak so highly of Garmin.. Thank you!

Garmin actually upgraded the display on the Fenix 7 Pro compared to Fenix 7, that's why the author notices some positive changes. The new display has some tweaks to make it more reflective - which is exactly what the Fenix 7 needed.
@ChadRex1 Жыл бұрын
The Enduro 2 needs this display as well. The Enduro 2 is the perfect "Fenix" watch all it needed was a better backlit screen.

Love the new updates for the Epix 2 Pro including the 51mm and flashlight not to mention crazy battery life. Can I ask what the width of your wrist is to give us an idea of how big the 51mm watch will be on our wrists?

Thank you very much for this overview. Your videos are very helpful to me the last years. I am using the Epix 2 Saphire for almost a year now and I like it very much. On the other hand I like the new Fenix Pro as well so I decided to order it and use if for the summer month and outside and I will keep the Epix for winter and inside. 🙃

Another great video Dave! I think for me these are just too expensive! Would love to get one probably the epix if I could. I have been eyeing the forerunner 965 just wish it had a flashlight. The flashlights are really cool! So how long do they let you keep the watches they send you?? Thanks for the great content Dave!

Excellent video, Dave!! Very helpful!! Any comments on Saphire glass clarity/brightness when indoors and outdoors between EPIX AMOLED and FENIX MIP?
@ChaseTheSummit Жыл бұрын
Kind of a toss up. They both have advantages in different lighting conditions. Fenix is still easier on the eyes in blaring direct sunlight while the Epix can get a little hard to read. However in just about every other situation I prefer the Epix.

Thanks for the rundown, Dave! Great video, as usual 🔥 It would have to be the Epix Pro 47mm for me (upgrading from Fenix 6 Sapphire Titanium), but still can’t decide whether to make the jump to Apple Watch Ultra 😰

Great review. I am upgrading from a 935 and main goal is long course triathlon. Money aside, would you prefer the 965 or Epix™ Pro (Gen 2) - Sapphire Edition | 51 mm. Assuming the Epix could take the brunt of day to day better ( better scratch resistant vs 965?) Thanks

I'll sell my Fenix 7x and get the Epix 2 pro 51mm. The main reason is the screen and now paired with the better battery life. I love the Fenix 7X with its massive battery life that I almost forget I've got to charge from time to time but the screen is always meh compared with OLED. The Epix 2 pro will be a bit of a hit on the battery life but the screen clarity and resolution will be much better for map reading while out walking which is my main use. Also the improved HRM for Racketball will be good.

Excellent review, thanks! I'm currently an Epix 2 user, generally happy. However, I've seen several instances of the "cadence lock" effect on HR, seems like this is a common problem. Do you know whether Garmin has fixed this by updating the HR sensor hardware on the back of the watch?

Great helpful review, thanks Dave!! I have Enduro 2 and do open water swimming and also use it as an odometer on my bike. I'm thinking of buying Epix 2 pro. Is it possible to keep Epix 2 pro always on even for several hours without rotating the wrist? Is the dial legible underwater and in bright sunlight?

I tried the Fenix 7x Pro for a week. Liked it but didn't love it especially for the price. In that same week it went on sale. So I actually swapped it for the Epix gen2 Pro. Now this watch feels well worth the price and the Amoled screen is way nicer!

I just replaced my instinct tactical last fall with a 955 which is obsolete because of the 965 display. I was looking at the fenix 7 at the time and I am glad I didn’t make that investment, for now I will keep what I have as a year from now their will be a better version of what’s new always an you would be chasing it 26:33 26:33

None of these watches are obsolete. New versions will pop up but Garmin will continue to support older models for a very long time... In fact my original Fenix 1 from over 10 years ago still syncs with Garmin Connect.
