This week on Chasin' The Racin' Podcast, we are joined by John McGuinness to look back on the Isle of Man TT 2023 as a whole. Chewing the fat on the the highs and lows of this year on the rock. Enjoy - CTR x
We pay tribute to Raul Torras Martinez, Spains fastest rider around the TT course, who tragically lost his life during this year of racing. Thoughts go to his family and friends. Rest in peace Raul.

They’re right about Jonathan Rea and Kawasaki he’s arguably ridding better than ever the bike is just not good enough. What Dean Harrison was able to do at the TT this year was remarkable.

Another great interview, great to see John so positive after all the shite over the last few years. I think it is a huge benefit to the TT to have these old duffers peddling round. That kind of experience is a priceless resource for the young uns.

John i met you at the TT 2022 and you signed my Honda hat you keep racing age has no place with your experiance. courage is needed when you start but courage and experiance makes champions 23 TT win mean you have earned the right to keep racing even if you were stone last. Well done John

As im sat with my lad watching with me in the same tee shirt on as John, I hope some cash went to the guys, im also proud i met him in person, my pride is a signed poster which will go up on the garage wall when its finished. But to the point, John was a gent when i met him, i was speechless but i watched John have a good chat to a couple of kids and really took the time to everyone there.

Let's balance things up a bit. The reason why John is getting what he perceives as negative comments about finishing is because he himself said publicly on several occasions some years ago that he would not continue if he felt he could not win and was only riding for a place. He now states himself that he is in this position, as he admits he cannot do the speeds of the top few. So people are quite right to be confused as to why he is carrying on. There are, of course, keyboard warriors making offensive jibes but John also needs to accept that many of the comments are from genuine fans of his who are simply not into pissing up his back. People don't want to see him slipping further and further down the finishing order. People don't want to see his career finally end badly. People can see that he has a genuine and important second career in racing if only he would move on. This is not disrespect, this is genuine affection and care. Sometimes you have to tell people you care about what they don't want to hear, just blowing smoke up their arse isn't caring. As for Honda - they do not have a good track record of doing what is best for their riders' careers rather than what is best for Honda, especially in road racing. Hizzy being a case in point.

Massive massive respect for John he's a legend he will go down as one of the greatest TT races of all time. A stand-up guy a great family man and a good all-around bloke. But when he says reaction time don't fall off when you age he is incorrect. There are many many peer review studies showing cognitive ability does decline with age now for somebody who engages in quick decision-making for a living will have less of a degradation then the average punter. There's a reason why you don't see 50 and 60 year old fighter pilots in active duty. Spatial judgement and situational awareness rely on vision and reaction abilities. It's just the physiological facts.

Always been a big fan of John over the years. Another great interview from him, honest as ever. Interesting to hear how he talks about the status of being a “current” rider with all the attention it brings. I get the feeling he would struggle to identify as an “ex” rider. Is there a plan for after racing ?? I recall an interview years ago were John said that you should only race at the TT for the “right reasons”. I’m not sure if he is now.

Dom- ultimate respect and kudos for keeping CTR going- best tribute to Chrissy possible! All these episodes with the legends from my era (and God Bless JM & Company for keeping it going) are the closest most of us will ever get to meeting them I person. I got hooked on the TT after reading about it way back in 1985/1986 when I first got into road bikes here in the USA, back when breaking The Ton was still a huge deal. Question- given the huge advances in bikes, tires, etc. with efi, engine braking, traction control, anti-wheelie, etc etc etc, if a person were to attempt the TT now as a true rookier (regardless of age), what exactly is the new Ton?

At one point in time the qualifying time was 107% of the fast lads but I would say my knowledge is outdated now that sub 17s and 120mph in the sidecars are now possible. To answer your question imo having been through the milky quale and Jonny Barton rider introduction program to even be allowed to take the newcomers lap, I would say for a 600 or thousand should be wobbling round at 112? I'm nothing more than an armchair pundit mind you.

Really enjoyed that one 👌🏼👍🏻 Fully agree with Joe at 109.06 minutes about the football culture types. Hopefully it doesn't turn into that and just returns to the bike family network we all know and love. Have you ever thought about asking Steve Mercer on the pod?? Would make a good episode, and be very interesting to hear his story of his recovery up till now and future plans in life. Great work on your pods guys and girls. 👍🏻👌🏼🏁🏍️

OZEMPIC!!! Someone tell John McG about Ozempic/Wagovy (has a few names) ASAP... He'll drop all the weight without any effort- may sh1t his pants more than normal, feel nauseous etc etc but he may not. Either way he'd drop all the weight....Vital to hit the gym regularly while on it, to retain muscle mass, it seems to promote muscle growth in those who work out while on it... Maybe he could get on the TRT (testosterone) AND Ozempic, train 3 times a week, come off it before the Northwest and arrive at TT 2025 lightest n strongest he's ever been! I reckom a LOT of bigger lads will catch on to this... Will be the silver bullet for John though, it'll absolutely work 100%... Just wouldnt rec racing on it as could cause fatigue, brain fog, plenty of negatives a real roads rider shouldnt have... Cycle the Ozempic through off season n try maintain weight till TT... Havent heard of anyone on it, plus test, but expect its happening, working, and some lads secret weapon... if was fukn folk up we'd be hearing about it.
