In the Dutch TV Show 'RTL Autowereld' visits Nico Aaldering Ms. Tan from the Hague. She is the first owner of a Jaguar XJ V12 Coupé.

Mooi verhaal! Laat goed zien hoe de handel in klassiekers vraagt om een persoonlijke aanpak, die hier maximaal gegeven wordt. Vanuit zakelijk perspectief een mooie vondst, een C is een bijzonderheid, en dan met een goed verhaal, volledige historie en mooi bewaard. Prima deal.

I think a mistake has been made in the video, it's the doors that were made from standard pressings which were welded together to give the extra length, custom pressings would have been expensive for what was a limited volume vehicle. The roof came with a standard vinyl covering because without the B pillar the roof flexed, and paint technology at the time wasn't as good as today, so the roof paint would crack and not flex, hence the vinyl covering. Many of the cars that have been restored and repainted now have the vinyl roof removed because modern paint technology can cope with the flex and to reduce the chances of rust developing under the vinyl... so the English didn't mess up!

Een hele aparte dame, en ik weet eigenlijk niet zo goed of dat positief of negatief is bedoeld, want ze is apart, en daar hou ik wel van, maar ik hou niet van die gemaakte overdreven types, en zo komt ze wel een beetje over als ze de 300SL van Nico bekijkt, en zegt dat ze "huilt als een wolf" nadat ze de Jaguar heeft overgedragen aan Nico, door de juridische ter-hand-stelling (juridisch is ze op dat moment haar rechten als eigenaar verloren, omdat die zijn overgegaan op Nico, die de koper is. Misschien het bedrijf van Nico en Nick, maar datdoet weinig terzake).

The old European quality in cars was made to last for life, I own their Mercedes W126 and use it on a daily basis and I will not think about using modern cars as long as my cars have spare parts

At 6,40 Mr Aldering tells the well known version about why they vinyl roof was used but i am reliably informed by Richard Beaty, godson of Norman Dewis, that the real reason is different: when the unions at the factory were on strike they would close the gates, and since the body suppliers were paid on delivery, they took to stacking the bodyshells, and this created the dents on the roof that were hidden by vinyl….and as they say, if it isnt true it’s a great story!

Dat verklaart misschien ook de emotie van die mevrouw. Het enige echt waardevolle dat ze nog had, is de Jaguar (ze vertelde vroeger een Jacht te hebben aan de Cote D'Azure), en dan is elke prijs natuurlijk te weinig, omdat ze in haar beleving een super-auto heeft, en is het afscheid van zoiets emotioneels ook moeilijk. Het is heel goed dat Nico dat snapt en haar nog een ritje beloofde, maar dat is natuurlijk ook erg goede PR, want dat kunnen weer videos van gemaakt worden.

The car is for sale € 39.950, so probably he paid a lot less; he had to do service and get it running.
