It's the best of all worlds--safety and a roof, but on location with unpredictable weather! 😁

new subscriber here.. I paint plein air a few times a week, and many times , i am doing it from my car .. i paint with gouache and watercolors , mostly .. so happy to find your channel here.. I'm Norakag.. I think the car studio allows me soooo many more opportunities to paint and sketch , as it's is just so easy to be "stealth" and not get all caught up in setting up and dealing with onlookers!! thanks so much !!

Hi Norakag! Car painters unite! 🤣 I agree -- car painting is the best for steath painting. I also feel much less exposed and safe if I'm in an urban area. It's great in the rain, too!

Another gem from the driver’s seat! So are you using any medium at all besides water? Your paint seems to have a nice flow. Thanks!

Thank you! Actually, when I paint on this oil paper, I don't need much of anything except a little water to thin things at the beginning. This is Strathmore oil paper, 215 lb, and it has a really nice finish that keeps the paint smooshable on the surface. 👍

Can I ask what your mantra/thoughts are on shadows ie getting the value and colour so the shadow 'sits' in it's place.
@Jennifer_Sampson_Art
@Jennifer_Sampson_Art Жыл бұрын
That is a good question. When you know the answer, let me know! 😄 I suppose I try to think about seeing the subtle variations in value. So instead of thinking of it as one flat shape, trying to see which edges are darker or lighter. In this piece, when I held it up at the end to take a photo, I realized the shadow of the window was darker near where it met the window. If I had gotten that, I think it would've sat in place better. Does that make sense?

I was doing a pen and ink sketch from my vw kombi of a view of Simonstown,while parked on red hill……..The neighbours called the police on me as I had sat there for 2 consecutive days and sadly it was a time in South Africa where terrorists set off a bomb at the Cape Town waterfront which killed some people,including people from our town. 30 years ago now.

Oh my, that's disturbing! I don't blame the neighbors...😳 I imagine someone will call the cops on me one day, too, but I've been lucky so far.

Lol! The white residue is actually sunscreen. I apply liberally, and it winds up on everything... 😅
