Of all steam locmotives in the world, Sierra #3 is puffing with my heart on board. (My heart belongs to her, that´s to say) She´s the most wonderful machine in the world.

Do you happen to remember what the fastest you saw her go while you were pacing her? Morbid curiosity is all

At 1:44, you can see the switch ties for the Southern Pacific turntable lead! too bad the turntable or even the pit aren't still there...

Well, if they remove state funding, the Sierra Railroad will be on its own, and will have to privately funded if they wish to keep the trains rolling. I am optimistic that Railtown 1897 will keep going no matter what, so long as there are plenty of train buffs like me to help keep it funded. Personally, I think the "Governator" can stick that cigar of his where the sun don't shine, if you catch my drift.

Sierra #3 has had a few different whistles over the years. She was built with a single chime flat top whistle (standard for locomotives prior to 1900). It is believed that the whistle she had prior to her last wreck in 1918 was damaged in the roll over; It may have been replaced at that time. Some years later she appeared in a photo with a new whistle home-built from boiler tubes (also common on shortline railroads, constructed rather than bought from the manufacturer). It was likely a 3-Chime.
