From 2005, a report on H5N1, also called avian flu, a bird virus ravaging the poultry industry in Asia which has, on rare occasions, infected humans, killing half of its victims. Steve Kroft spoke with Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the government’s Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, for this story. Fauci is stepping down this week.

I had bird flu last year. I was so sick and it gave me asthma. My grandmother had it also in 1997 when she was in China and also now has asthma because of it

One more reason to boycott animal products. Ending animal agriculture would greatly reduce the threat of zoonotic diseases like the 1918 Spanish flu, which started in an animal farm in Kansas. Workers in meat packing facilities often endure terrible, dangerous working conditions. 8-Animal ag is a major cause of the loss of habitat and biodiversity 9-Needless killing of innocent, sentient beings cannot be ethically justified. 10- It is the single most effective way for each of us to fight climate change and environmental degradation. 11- Longer lifespan. 12- Healthier weight (vegans were the only dietary group in the Adventist Studies that had an average BMI in the recommended range.) 13- A healthy plant based diet significantly reduces the chances of ED later in life, and even 1 meal can improve bedroom performance 14- Vegetarians and vegans have lower rates of dementia later in life 15- A plant based diet could save money! I agree. One more reason to replace animal agriculture for a fully plant based food system. Most new diseases, epidemics and pandemics are zoonotic, aka come from animals. When bird flu struck our country about 15 years ago, we were eating chicken 4 times a day lol. The poultry guys gave us free chicken instead of culling, and at that time good food was hard to come by as we were poor. Humans are now become pusies.
