This was absolutely insane..
After failing time and time again to catch UP 6706 for 7.5 years from 2016 to early 2024, I discovered that the unit was slated to be rebuilt into a C44ACM sometime within the next couple of months/years. I decided that I would try my hardest to catch the unit before the alleged (but obviously not true) rebuild date, June 21st. I did not meet this goal. Nearly three more months passed in silence as the unit did not return to Kansas after its trip on the ZLCG2 in early June. Finally, on September 12th, I got word that 6706 would be the lead unit on the MNLNP. However, I would not catch the train. Lucky for my friend, @jellostrains, he managed to catch it by complete chance. Today, I awoke to the news that 6706 would be leading the MNPHN. The day passed mostly uneventfully until, at 12:30 PM, after multiple hours of nothing from a spotter in Herington, I decided to make the trek up to Herington to see it for myself. I only had to wait an hour for it to show up, and as a bonus, the crew was friendly!! This was one of the greatest catches I’ve ever had and I will never forget this!!
