Watch all of our WV adventures: kzbin.info/aero/PLZKRTK1yCEM5a4PAiayjCpGAkRdeCeb5G Safety is our #1 priority and we want to stress that this adventure, and all future adventures, will be done responsibly and with the health of others in mind. Here are the steps we are taking everyday, including in these videos: 😷Masks and face coverings. We wear these anytime we are near others outside and especially indoors. If we don’t have a mask on in a video, it’s 99% because there was no one around. ⏰ Exploring early. We normally start at sunrise anyway because of less crowds, but especially so with COVID. We have been starting our days before sunlight so we can limit our interactions. 🧼 Washing and sanitizing our hands, especially after touching anything outside of the van. 🚐 Being in the van 95% of the time when we’re not filming. The adventures we share are a small sliver of our lives. We are staying in the van all day everyday when working and the only time we leave is to do laundry, get gas, or go to the store. 6️⃣ Keeping our distance. We are trying to stay at least 6 ft from others, which truthfully isn’t always possible (and then we make sure we cover our face).

Loved your video and we love the Thomas area! We're here right now, August 18, 2021. We found the road right outside of Thomas that goes to the waterfall. However, those potholes Kathryn talks about in this video are completely filled up with water as of today. We've had a lot of rain since we've been here 4 days ago. We started down it but turned around because we didn't want to chance it. Today you would want a 4 wheel drive raised up vehicle. I'm sure it will get better again when the rain slows down. We absolutely love this area though!

Lifelong West Virginian that lives in this area. I always get so excited when people explore my neck of the woods. Unfortunately, the word is out about Dolly Sods and it's like this most of the time from what we hear. About 10 years ago you could go this time of year and there'd only be a handful of cars. Dolly Sods and the Davis/Thomas area are probably at the top of my list. Other good spots are Stonewall Jackson State Park. So many good hikes there and the resort itself is 😍. Fayetteville is also an awesome area and has a similar vibe to Thomas. You could visit the New River Gorge Bridge and also eat at the Secret Sandwich Society which is a gem in itself. I live in the Charleston area so I also have to mention that we do have a really great state museum at the cultural center on our Capitol grounds. The capitol itself is also so so pretty when it’s not covered up 😉.

Onto your West Virginia series! Another excellent video with some excellent choices to showcase this state. It’s also nice that your shared the less than glamorous side of travel. You two keep it real and I really appreciate that and I am sure your other viewers do too. This is a beautiful section of the state, heck I would venture to say of the entire US. We try to do a fall color trip every year and we picked this area a few years ago. We used Blackwater Falls, which a gorgeous park, as our base. We hit up Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, and Dolly Sods as our other stops. I can’t believe the Dolly Sods was that busy when you went. Insane! We hit it during peak fall leaf season and it wasn’t anywhere close to being that busy. West Virginia doesn’t seem to be a travel destination but it definitely isn’t a secret either. We also had a pretty big snafu during our trip here. We travel with a roof bag on our SUV. After unpacking it, I left the buckles that attach it to the roof rack on top of the vehicle. Needless to they were lost and I was freaking out how we would get home with all of our gear. Luckily a hardware store was open on a Sunday and I MacGuvered something that I hoped and prayed would hold on our trip home. Thankfully it did.

@@AdventuresofAplusK Very memorable for sure. One bear sniffed our tent in the middle of the night. That was scary, but I think it was just curious. We had taken all the necessary precautions (food hung in a tree, etc). The second was just as it was getting dark and was pretty close to the trail. We were there after a heavy rain and the falls were falling across in a solid sheet. The water was a coffee with heavy cream color. Also, the branches in the trees next to the falls were blowing in reaction to the draft that was caused by the strong water current that was flowing down next to them. It was almost like a small storm was happening in that immediate area even though all of the rain had stopped. The day before we were walking on the road in the drizzle and saw a full arch rainbow that looked like it touched the ground on both ends.

It will be fun watching the vlogs progress with the fall color development - the waterfalls were beautiful too, you guys always find the best places. Loved you guys sharing the “rough” parts too - it’s not always 🌈 and 🦄 !
@AdventuresofAplusK4 жыл бұрын
It definitely is not always 🌈! We have many tough days on the days we aren’t filming with just everyday van life things, like low power and finding water, juggling works, etc. We are happy to give a glimpse into it and want to continue to do so because we never want people to think we have this glamorous, easy life. It’s far from that despite what the adventures show haha.

Yes, go with the flow, don't stress! As long as you're together nothing else matters.

We try our hardest! But van life makes simple everyday tasks about 10x more challenging, so it can be a bit tough at times.

Thanks for the travel videos and also showing some reality of van life. Takes adapting and flexibility and having a plan B it seems like!

LOTS of flexibility! It has been a very good lesson for a Type A planner like myself.

Oh gosh it was sooo packed! I don’t think we put this clip in the vlog, but after we got out to explore there were cars trying to go both directions and people were having to back up and try to scoot over to let others pass. Such a mess! Harvest Hosts saved us a few times on the East Coast already and we have another one booked soon. They are lifesavers!

Love your vlogs! I can’t believe how different Blackwater Falls looks in your video versus when i quailed a few years back in mid October. Growing up and working in WV and now living in NW Arkansas, I find your travels very interesting. I have been to most places in your recent series in WV and NWA. One special post of yours is of Blackwaters Falls State Park. In September, 1987 I asked my wife to marry me at on the lower deck directly beside the falls. After our wedding in Tulsa, OK we drove to Fairmont, WV where I worked. It took blind love and courage for her to move to a remote town in the mountains. Last year we went back to Blackwater Falls for our 32nd anniversary. Side note: find Bemis, WV and put it on your place to go list if you head back to WV. A town literally at the end of the road with great trout fishing.

What an amazing story! And proposal spot! Big congratulations on 32+ years, that is incredible and we cannot wait to be able to say the same in 26 years! Adding Bemis to our list for next time 😄
