Oh my God! Tell me how can I not love your food channel! I followed up your videos since August 2017 and it made me feels missing Malaysian food from days to days (I'm at Jordan). Right now, I am so surprised that you even had a chance to taste that kuih kundas. I, myself was born in Kuala Lumpur and my father's hometown is at Enggor, Perak. The name of the small village is Kampung Loh Karai, my father's hometown. Kuih kundas is so limited that even not all malaysians know about this type of kuih. My interest towards your channel increases since you guys travel the whole states of Malaysia to taste our food. Still can't believe that you guys had come to that village because it is a very small hometown. And your review towards that kuih kundas is the best gift today for me because today is my parents 23rd anniversary. Good job and well done!
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
Wow! Happy Anniversary to your parents Car Nine! That is so cool how our video coincided with the date. We loved getting the chance to visit Enggor! Kampung Loh Karai was such a charming village and we were so excited to be able to eat the kuih kundas! One of the highlights of our road trip was stopping in some of the smaller villages in Perak. They were really an incredible example of one Malaysia- very special places indeed. Thanks so much for your continued support and hope you like what we have coming up on the channel mate. 😀😀😀😀 Happy New Year! Cheers, Sheena

Gotta say, when I first discovered your channel. I wasn't really like the way sheena mm mmm mmmm. But I kinda got used to it after watching a couple of videos. hahaha It's kind of a special sheena thing now. When we eat Pau, we usually peel the thin skin first. it tastes better that way. Because the skin can be quite chewy sometimes. Maybe next time you can try the pau with the skin peeled. :p
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
😆😆😆😂😂😂 you gotta just be yourself right Kyle Tan? I used to always peel the skin the of the pau when I was a kid- especially with the sweet pau. You're so right- it is quite a chewy texture. Will have to do it the next time we're eating pau for old times sake! Hope you enjoyed this video- thanks for watching and commenting Kyle Tan. Cheers, Sheena

Sheena's mmmmmmmmm just reminds me about Nigella Lawson or Food Safari's Maeve O'Meara ❤️🙏 but I'm not sure how you people are keeping yourself fit after eating so much deep Fried foods! Foods in Malaysia look so yummy but most of the items are deep fried or high in fat/ richness 😅 I need to carry tablets of gastric and needs to do lots of jogging during the travel 🙏😅

Hi guys. That weird looking egg is something else. My mom's laksa condiment consist of boiled egg, red onion, bird eye chili, julienne cucumber, mint, daun selom, lime, lettuce, and pineapple. The combination of these condiments are superb. Who knew pineapple works well in laksa and pizza? Lol. I also encountered some hawker that put squid sambal in laksa as well. So rare. So I got a question. Maybe u can answer this in your next Q&A video. So you guys have spent your days so long in Malaysia. You ate tons of foods like laksa, chicken rice, nasi kandar etc. In Malaysia you can taste so much varieties of laksa. The Chinese style, malay style. So which one do you prefer? I'm a Muslim so you we are prohibited from eating pork. So I'm intrigued. Is there any different? Which one taste the best? My bet is anything with pork make the food taste better lololololol
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
Hi Muhd Azwan! That egg is crazy right?! It had such a great flavour going on- mmmmm oil 😍😂 I am a huge fan of pineapple both on pizza and in laksa! That sweet tanginess just works so well! Bet your Mum's laksa is AMAZING! Arrggghh the laksa question is tricky as they're all so different. I'm a huge fan of laksa Sarawak and Kedah laksa whilst Thomas really likes Nyonya laksa (of which we had a halal version in Melaka). For me, when it comes to laksa I don't need the pork factor 😄 Hope you enjoyed this video mate, thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena

Oh so much foods...foods galore...some are simple and some are complicated (laksa), some are easy to prepare and some are not, but all are consider good foods that will make you want more and more till you stuffed your stomach with it: 1) Prawn fritter - simple but tasty with the sauce. Nice as snack, but you'll eat it till you'll feel full anyway....2) Laksa - no needs of words to describe it's complexity of flavours...jambalaya of flavours...3) Ak am - again simple but rewarding to eat it...4) Crab porridge (Bubur ketam) - any porridge done with love could be good, plus if you add crab it will raise its level of deliciousness...The best thing about Malaysian food is that could be enjoy at any time of the day, as you wish, as long as it is available...Oh my tummy growling so loud now...but in Korean growling sound...😀

Notification Squad here... Kuih kandas looks like a large Indian Poori to me, otherwise a large Chinese Cakoi/Cha Kwey. Hohoho that cucur udang is great! This is the first time I see people eating noodle with fritters as-is- well, I saw people eating rojak with noodles though. Wow crab porridge, never heard of that! I you want free porridge, wait for Ramadan and mosques are giving it away for free. :P I've an exam tomorrow yet I watch you eating good food.... Kuih kundas is also found in rojak kuih speciality of ipoh's mamak/indian muslim in ipoh.. But now days they also won't make them.. Laksa with the fried crispy eggs is called laksa sarang burung which literally mean birds nest laksa.. There is also another laksa at kuala kangsar, the only different is different kind of rice noodle from the normal ones..

This laksa is not a true iconic kuala kangsar laksa.. Thie type laksa that you guys eating is more like penang and kedah laksa. Because of the laksa rice noodle.. In kuala kangsar.. The laksa noodle made of Wheat base noodle.. And the laksa broth is more clear looking and a bit sour from the tamerin jus.. But.. Not to be denied that the laksa that you guys tasting it is still a good laksa..i often to go eat over this laksa.. Because its just down the street from my uncle house.. Good day from me (yeob) .. Hopefully you guys will come again visiting malaysia in the future come.. And explore more local malay cuisine and steet food.

+Chasing a Plate This is the meaning of Alor Setar on Sheena shirt...Alor (or standard Malay word is alur) is small stream, or shape like a small stream due to water used to run on it...Setar is the fruit from Setar tree. Green colour but turns yellowish when riped. Sweet and sour in taste and people makes pickles out of it, or put in popsicle. The soft stone inside it is purplish in colour. It is the family of kundang fruit, and not far in appearance from Kedondong except it is rotund in shape unlike Kedondong's oval shape.
@tomiemyspace50547 жыл бұрын
So this is probably due to the abundancy of this setar tree in old Alor Setar, where many man-made water channels digged along paddy fields (Kedah is called Jelapang Padi or Paddy/Rice bowl of Malaysia) to irrigate the fields. Kedah land are arable and swampy and mostly suited to paddy plantations.

The crab porridge is more similar to teochew porridge and not the cantonese style porridge. Teochew porridge is usually watery with the rice not overly cook to a sticky state. You will see more teochew porridge up north as more teochew ppl escape to the north of Malaysia. The ark am is also a traditional teochew sweet.
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for explaining this Tifa! I really love this style of porridge- the broth had so much flavour and it was a much lighter bowl of porridge than Cantonese style porridge. Hope you enjoyed this video- we loved food hunting around Perak and seeing a bit more of Penang outside of Georgetown and the island! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Sheena

I want the hot and spicy red soups with eggs....it's coldness beyond normal in most countries right now...China, US, UK...so no doubt you too are affected and having thin winter clothing won't suffice in harsh winter season...eat lots of hot stuff and take lots of Vitamin C...good for you two...build up your resistance to coldness...orange juices will be okay...

all the food you guys tasted seem to taste great. if they don’t taste good to you, then just say it out. we viewers prefer honesty than just “everything tastes great”
@ChasingaPlate6 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex Teh, we spend hours and hours researching what to eat and film for these videos. We're all about finding the best local food in the cities we visit. You'll often find us saying something tastes great because it does- because after hours of research and talking to locals it's the best version of a dish we can find. We also don't think there is any point in filming and recommending bad food as it's a waste of our time and money and it's completely contrary to the ethos of our channel. If we don't like something though we will always say. Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the rest of the content on our channel. Cheers, Sheena
