I sell real estate and I’ve gone into hundreds of homes some of them with black marble. The black marble is truly a nightmare. It shows hard water stains, rings from water glasses, soap scum and it never looks clean. On the other hand classic white marble always looks good. It can be 40 years old and still it looks good. I personally think the cabinet for the sink should stay natural, there is already a lot of high contrast in the room, it reflects the light and adds just enough warmth to the space to be cosy without being the focal point. It also creates a beautiful juxtaposition between the rooms connected that I don’t think would be achievable any darker. Love how it’s all coming along and know it’s going to be stunning! 😍

Let me preface by saying I used to design kitchens and bathrooms and that most things are simply a matter of preference. 1) Cooler and warmer tones CAN work together. Bringing in the slightly warmer wall paint color actually works here, giving it a "lived in" feel and works well with the color of the adjoining rooms. A starker white would make it feel more modern (which is fine, if that's what's desired). 2) For the tub, if you're doing anything other than white (black, copper, platinum), it's because you want the tub to be the focus of the space. Painting the vanity black to match (although it would work) would defeat that purpose. 3) For the vanity, a stain/wash that would match the floors in the adjoining rooms would add some continuity between the spaces with a natural wood element. 4) For the countertop, I'd pick a white marble with bold grey veining (similar to the floor). For fun, I would play with the ledge next to the tub - white or black marble or even the same wood as the vanity would work! Ana, I know whatever you decide it will look fantastic!😍😘☺
@wendynj2Ай бұрын
Love your ideas! And I agree especially with your comment about the warm tone of the walls being a good counter-balance to the cool tones of the shower and floor. A stark white would be too harsh, imo. Good suggestions all around!

On the video, the walls looks very yellow, like there is a yellow (warm undertone), whereas the floor is cool. It might just be the camera, but I think the walls are messing with your color choices for the vanity. I would paint it to match the walls so it blends in. Maybe the question is what do you want to pop? The bathtub or the vanity? Too many "look at ME's" in one tiny room can be overwhelming to the eye. The floor is busy, and it is a statement. The tub compliments the floor. The walls and the vanity have to play supporting roles. I would paint the vanity in the same shade as the walls, so it blends in...then your fixtures will totally pop! (and not fight with the floor)

In the US and probably Europe, there are lifetime sealers for slabs. I would select taller lights for the vanity. Given that you have cream/off white walls, black and white floor, grey tiles and grey and white bath, I would consider arabescato marble, one that incorporates all the different colours that are in your room (with a predominent light background) and have that one marble on the bath ledge, vanity top and shower base. Choose the marble first and then the vanity cabinet can blend to the marble allowing a more natural wood tone. Yes the marble is expensive but it will blend old chateau to your more contempory style - while it will add a further pattern to the mix your room is large enough to handle it.

Hello, thank you so much for sharing your amazing journey. I really like your take on keeping the traditional feel of a chateau with a modern twist. Always with good taste. 😊 On the subject of the vanity, maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like oak. If it is, the more traditional and perhaps soft look would be to leave the color natural and take a white/ soft grey mat marble countertop (just like it would have been on an old "vanity table"). I agree with Philip that right now it looks kind of modern cheap but hear me out: the oak will age and darker with natural light ( as long as you don't put anti uv finish on it), and that will look the most original to the place in 2 or 3 years. However there is a high chance the woodstain will look a bit meh in those 2/3 years... Hope this is a little helpful.

When you do these things it will finish it off better and look more custom and historically they often played with this type of thing with tile and marble.

The wall colour, while it is a great one, it kinda doesnt feel quite right...unless perhaps it somehow transfers to the blinds on the windows combined with some black details. Also the lights on the mirror...yeap, not the ones. Perhaps smt not so industrial (not so modern) but still clear glass...hmmm perhaps if they had a small black base and then just the glass, they could also transfer juuuuust a tiny bit of the black tiles upwards connecting everything...

I have never commented before, but felt that must comment now to say you will both collaborate together to make the best decision for the two of you. I enjoy watching your family’s journey. Take care.

The bathtub colour looks good on my monitor... in relation to the other colours. Good luck figuring it out. You do need to distance yourself a bit to think it through but then, in the end, not compromise. It'll bug you forever. - One thing... all the tile choices seem to have a slightly cool undertone but the wall paint seems to be creamy with a warm undertone. Hmmm.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. Cold and warm mixed together never match.

If you have hard water, please do not go with a dark marble.. you will start seeing water rings

The bathroom is coming together beautifully! I love the floor and new paint color. They work so well together. I would suggest picking mirror lights that match the finishing of the sink facet.

P has the best sense of humor!!! I too painted something black recently and it turned out to be that same dark grey! I went and bought a different brand and redid the part I’d finished. A bathtub would be a different story maybe!❣️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I hate to say it but I think I would absolutely paint the cabinet to match the walls. And white marble. I probably would have gone with a paint color on the walls that was a bit more complimentary to the white marble. And then a black tub would work. You have a lot going on in a smaller space there. It’s all lovely. If I was feeling extra French Queen, I would do all of that and paint the tub exterior gold.

I have a white marble and a navy blue cabinet in my bath! It’s striking.

why not going for a complementing grey kind of marble/granite in between the white and the black.

natural wood for sure! it’s beautiful and feels right in the room and chateau

Darker colors show a lot of dust and lint in a bathroom. You will probably thank yourself in the future to stick with lighter wood tones and countertops.

I’m with Benoit on the vanity, I would keep the natural wood colour and maybe try the white marble with it. Everything looks beautiful though as always!😊

How about matching the cabinet in the bathroom to the wall color in the bedroom?

I love the charcoal on the tub. It compliments the white tiles with gray veins.
