When I was growing up, my granny had Kaffeeklatsch sessions with her sister and girlfriends every Sunday. Lots of cakes and tarts and, of course, gossip. 🤣 Oh!…and Kaffeestreifen! ….I think it’s clear what brought on the Diabetes…😉😂

Morning Patrick & Stuart, I was almost glued to the screen while watching. The best kitchen conversation while making pies. It was lovely to see Jane, loved the cooking stories how this and that was added to achieve the right flavours. Jane is absolutely correct, mince meat was used with the fruit for Christmas Mince Pies. So glad that ingredient has been done away with, so now I think the mince pies comes from mincing or processing the soaked fruit into a smooth sort of paste. My dried fruits are soaking in whiskey, that's what we had in the house, and it has already been absorbed, fortunately there is sufficient fruit and whiskey left for the pies, but I am making it in a tray and then cut into slices, saves so much time. Loved your aprons, you looked quite professional wearing them. Well, that was a start to a great Thanks Giving coming up, enjoy all the preparations and don't forget that glass of wine while cooking and baking, very satisfying whilst working away. Oh, Patrick, "I need an intervention !" That's why you married Stuart; to ground you. Stuart, I see you shaking your head and rolling your eyes...lol. Those pies look amazing. Let us know if the walnut pie was a little dry as I find pecans to be more buttery than walnuts and the recipe might need to be tweaked for the substitution of nut varieties; it might work with macadamia nuts, too. But, I bet the flavor was still good.

It was fun watching you bake your three pies in your new aprons. One of my favourite meals is Sauerbraten, goulash and potato dumplings. Like yourself, I use to eat at least 6 dumplings. We even had contests in our family as to who could eat the most. Kaffee clutch sounds like fun.

Just so you now, most commercially available canned pumpkin is actually squash. But then again squash is probably a closer relative to pumpkin than walnuts are to pecans! Hope you enjoyed the pies and Thanksgiving

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this. But when we can't get pecans we use quick oats it will end up looking like chopped pecans. It's really wonderful. And I add ginger and clove to my pumpkin pie

We had recently gotten a new dishwasher. My Husband was upset because it did not come with a hose. He ran all around looking for a hose. Patrick! I love sweet potato. Never steam. Cook! Take the beautiful inside out. Re bake the skin mix the fruit up with bacon honey etc the put it back in with after 30 mins. A veined cheese and walnut. Just beautiful

Re the Mayflower: Approximately half religious dissenters (not spies tho) and half were entrepreneurs. They were originally headed to Virginia (where some of my relatives were known to have settled even before the Mayflower arrived in Mass. Some others of my relatives were also on the Mayflower while others traveled aboard The Ark & The Dove to Maryland in 1635. I love that you're having a Thanksgiving in France. Pretty sure they do it up right at de la Lande as well. It may be a mute point because by this time you may have already made your decision about your oven but might I suggest double ovens? We love ours.

What fun! Wow, that’s what I call heavy cream! 🙂 You’re absolutely right to replace appliances before you redo the kitchen! You are living there. 😁♥️ I do envy your kitchen space. I love my little 1922 house, but a 1922 kitchen has room for 1922 appliances. 😉 The fridge is in the back hall, taking up all of the coat closet, because that’s just below the original ice box. If I got a reproduction 1922 stove and fridge, they might both fit in the kitchen… but I’d rather have newer. 😉

Patrick, I love your apron. So sweet! And as a Viennese I loved your explanation on the Viennese silk dumplings. But I‘m not sure if you were talking about Kartoffelknödel or the Serviettenknödel (with the croutons inside). The Servietteknödel have the form of a loaf of bread and are then cut into slices whereas the Kartoffelknödel are round and have this silky appearance you mentioned. I think I should come to the Château the Colombe and we do an Austrian cooking vlog, that would be fun!

I thought Patrick's apron was the cat's meow until Stewart waltzed into view... Thanks for sharing the fun, tips and recipes. You gave me some fun things to try. I usually use my grandmother's pumpkin pie recipe which includes a dollop of rum. Yum! I think incorporating some of your recipe is going to make it even better.
