This is the most useful video I've seen about ChatGPT in regards to development. Instead of instantly going into "freakout" mode like most other KZbinrs desperate for views, Brad sat with it for awhile, got to know it, and figured out it's limits and most practical use-cases. Thanks for being one of the good ones Brad. It's a struggle finding good resources in this age of fear-inducing clickbait.

Thanks friend. I don’t like the clickbait myself. I also have no interest in creating it. I have a passion for long form educational content, which may not get as many views these days, but the quality of fanbase I have is top tier.

So cool. I use this at my job (which I got thanks to you, Brad!) and it also helps with communicating with non-technical staff. My boss asked me to explain technical errors to her "like I'm 5 years old", so I've written prompts like "explain React/PHP/etc. to me like I'm a child" and have gotten pretty good responses to help explain complex things in laymen's terms. Thanks again Brad!

Brad you mentioned how this can impact your business during this video - I am using chatGpt side by side with your Css Grid Crash Course - you know what? you have nothing to worry about! What chatGpt did was allow me to reinforce what you were saying in the video by allowing me to "search" for various aspect of the properties that you where introducing during the video. In the past I would have used Google and had to sort through all the results, not now!- short version Google has a bigger issue than you - please keep doing what your doing it has helped me tremendously and clearly many others! Thank You

With all the hype and fearmongering going around lately about AI, my attitude toward ChatGPT was mostly one of reluctance 😒 and frustration 😤, because it just seems to be yet another tool/skill I that have to learn to use in order to stay relevant as a front-end designer/developer. But this crash course really changed my mind, because it's the first time I see ChatGPT used in a practical way, with examples of how it can be applied to real web dev/des scenarios (and beyond). I'm feeling seriously excited 🤩 about using it now, especially for generating responsive media queries and making UI code more accessible. (MIND==BLOWN)==TRUE. 🤯 Cheers for this brilliant content Brad.

I was (have been) sceptical of ChatGPT's uses for developers, but I watched the video to the end, my eyes are now more open now and I am impressed. I'm a BE (Java) dev myself so I now need to investigate the possibilities with respect to Java and the other languages, frameworks and tools that I use. But this is a great starter. Many thanks.

Great video, very helpful. One additional use I have been doing is using ChatGPT to fix performance issues on an old code base that was written in a language I have not used in 20 years. First time, it fixed a call that was taking over 3 minutes to run in 30 seconds. I had to find the bad code, but it gave me the solution.

Excellent ideas! I use a few of these techniques, but creating test data and brainstorming are great uses I'll add to my list. I'd love to see some more in depth usage and/or a short complete work flow. Also, sometimes it's helpful to give ChatGPT a role to play right at the beginning: You are a Python expert, you know how to use streaming APIs, etc. Although, sometimes it replies with "As a large language model, I am already a ..." - makes me laugh.

Good content, Brad, as always. One thing to consider though: chatgpt cannot access any particular URL . The moment you pass the URL to your repo, it hallucinates the DOCs based on context. I suppose it can do it because your repo is referenced in other places and chatgpt can use what has been said/written about that repo. It may have been trained on Github data as such. But it definitely does not access the current contents at the given URL.

Bing Chat will do that. Plus Perplexity and Phind. Though the reliability is not great.
@user-nf2jd9wj6v
@user-nf2jd9wj6v 10 ай бұрын
@@kevinmcfarlane2752 To be fair, the reference here is to the ChatGPT web interface directly, which would be incorrect to suggest. But I think none of those tools are an actual answer to this premise either. Providing a link will have it read only the content from that link. If all the code is there, beautiful. But more often than not, it's spread out through multiple folders. Perplexity claims it can search through other pages of a domain, but I've yet to see an accurate answer from a domain search in topics that don't easily appear from a Google Search.

Amazing video! Thank you Brad. I would also agree that this is by far the most useful video, now instead of being depressed about not having enough time to write unit tests I can ask to get them generated. Also what helped a lot is the understanding how it can be useful instead of usual - oh it will take our jobs.. :) I guess for people who spent countless hours learning to be good developers, chat GPT might be scary because it will give an opportunity to someone less qualified to be relatively good much faster then it was in the past. Really liked the layout bit. I also prefer to concentrate on JavaScript rather than css..

I love working with ChatGPT for professional development. One thing I will say tho is if you are working with a company be careful because NDA's will not allow you to place their code into these AI chat environments. If anything, use the code produced for inspiration on working it into your codebase.

It's my favorite pair programmer. I used it for a project I was working on and what it did was help me get "unstuck". Times where I would have bailed out and came back later I was able to plow through and it worked great. The best part, I didn't go to stack overflow and go there very little anymore so don't have to deal with the tech bro culture of "why would you ask that, don't you know someone asked that question 2 years ago?". What I have been using more lately though is Bing chat, which is essentially chatgpt. I was never a Microsoft fan, but I've since moved to Edge and use bing. Google just seems so outdated and bland right now. One thing, beginner devs still need to learn fundamentals or else it will be a mess. I tried doing my taxes with this in front of my brother in law who is an accountant that runs his own firm. Long story short, he did my taxes and my return is a lot bigger than what I was getting with gpt because I'm not an accountant and I was starting from scratch.
