Good video. I love the direction this is heading. Currently there are a lot of limitations on relying on the accuracy of the information generated. Case in point, I applied the suggestion of Enrico to create a custom prompt in sidebar. I used "Provide quotations from United States Federal and State court legal opinions and secondary sources (including citations) that support the following:" I then used a softball to the prompt of "clickwrap agreements are enforceable." It then provided some excellent quotes with specific case cites. I have to admit, I was giddy seeing what it produced. I then took the extra step of looking at the cases. I pulled up Lexis to check. None of the six cases that were listed by chatpgt that I checked were actual cases. I was shocked. Not just one citation was off, but none of them were accurate. I checked by case name and separate citations provided. For fun, I then responded to the custom prompt I created with, “Whales are larger than “grasshoppers.” My favorite “case law” quote was the following: "The size difference between whales and grasshoppers is significant and cannot be ignored." - People v. Jones, 2015 IL App (1st) 141611-U, ¶ 12. These limitations don't mean that there aren't excellent use cases for LLMs, as Enrico's video indicates. The way I used it though, it's not ready for prime time.

Great reminder. Initially, it did appear that GPT could provide some assistance with caselaw research. But it was pretty clear that many of the citations were not accurate. We have to wait for the vendors to add AI to their case law research tools until then chat GPT does a great job of identifying the issues and arguments. But the case law research has to be done separately.

The reports of misquotes on cases or other false info have been coming in at a steady pace. GPT is not ready to do case law or state research. There are third parties in the legal research niche who are adding GPT to their search capabilities. Stay tuned!!!

The first three things I would do in order to start leveraging AI would be to subscribe to #chat,GPT plus. Next, I would register with OpenAI in order to get access to a secret API key next, I would download chatGPT sidebar.

At 6:28 you ask what you can do with the API key. The video then continues to ChatGPT Sidebar, leaving the question about API usage unanswered. I noticed you copied the API key into the Sidebar, but other than that, I feel the question is unanswered. So: What CAN one do with the API key?

Thank you for the question. Several third-party plug-ins and browser extensions such a Sidebar require you to use the API so that you pay for your own data use. Another example is the chrome extension for Google Drive which allows you to use ChatGPT, Google Docs and Google sheets. You need to insert your secret API key to use those extensions. unfortunately, many plug-in apps require you to pay a monthly subscription fee, which is probably 1,000 times more expensive than the API usage fee, even at $30 a month. If you have the choice, you should use your API key which provides incredibly cheap access to ChatGPT.

Many are obvious. But you have to double check for sure. My view is that it is more accurate than the vast majority of sources and far more accurate than the internet. I don't use it for case research anymore.

Anything through the chat? GPTAPI is not used for training any models. “The company has strict restrictions on your data. Basically, no one will be able to access your data unless you request us to diagnose data related issues for you.” Here is the chat, GPT sidebar data policy note there is two categories of data, personal data and usage data.
