The UK seems to have a great rail system. We have trains across the US but since this country is huge, the service is limited and very expensive. There is rail service within certain metro areas, but they are limited too. The bus system is probably better more affordable. But in some small cities limited, and none in many rural areas or small towns. I really enjoy seeing your rail system, and am envious of it!

As a small child,I remember a picnic in the park and watching the band play, then my brothers and I being lifted over the iron railings at the top of the hill.( victoria gardens.) clambering down the slope and sitting behind the wall at the top of the tunnel... I was terrified of the sound of the express racing out of the tunnel below me.... bellowing steam and smoke over us... I recall ( looking towards the southern end.) the signal box was on the opposite side your video is filmed from..( look carefully you can see the square hole where the signal 'wires' came out.(where the fence changes colour/age.)below the platform... There were 4 rail lines... the two you have today .another was behind platform one. this was all the post office area, and the car park... behind platform 2(London line.)was a siding with a huge steam locomotion which 'seemed' to be permanently being repaired.. also this was the area where huge piles of coal were kept for the small tenders used by the post office. the station master would walk up and down the platform shouting out ..' the next train will be for Bromley south and Victoria only.. stand back until the train comes to a full stop'.. he would have long wooden planks with all the train stops written on them...he would stick them up along the platform for each train arrival. he was like an army sgt-major, and very feared.... We would watch very closely when the London expresses went through.. the station master would hang postal bags from a pole.( at 43 seconds of your video, you can see on the floor a silver square where the pole was.) The express train would 'catch' the bag with a net.. it was so quick, you could never see it happen. At the ticket office, there was a big concertina door that was closed when trains came through, this was to stop the smoke racing up the stairs into the ticket area, and out into the taxi rank outside.. My mother was Mad at me once, I was very young and the stairs were so big, the sound too scary!,, we got caught on the stairs when a train came in. I was told to hold onto the stair rail and hold my breath.. she was not happy with me. because all the soot would dirty my dress. This was the same at 'LUTON ARCHES" you would have to race across under the arches when a train came across the arches.. or you would be covered in dropping soot and ash,...

It's quite rare you get a 3 car set here, at my local station. They normally use 4 and 4 coupled sets. Lucky catch of a 7 car!
