I have not read Malazan but everything that I’ve heard about it, in my head, I was saying it was the “Dark Souls” of fantasy books, which I’m glad you guys confirmed lol. So if Jimmy’s gotten Christian into all these new books, I guess he’ll be reading the first Berserk Deluxe Edition next week lol! Attack on Titan is S tier. An advantage of you guys covering these series are that they’re done and you don’t have to wait for new chapters. Berserk “finished” due to the unfortunate passing of Kentaro Miura but I’ve been reading it since 7-8th grade and I read the last chapter on my 31st bday in September 21. I am definitely checking out Sandman. Great talk boys!

Jimmy & Christian thanks for the amazing chat! Kept me entertained while working my graveyard shift tonight. Christian I can’t wait for you Stormlight deep dive video! I recently finished The First Law and it’s probably #2 on my favorite series behind Faithful and the Fallen. Glokta is one of my all time favorite characters now. I would like to see this get adapted one day. I’ll try to fit the standalones and Age of Madness in this year but I don’t know if I will. Also I started the Farseer trilogy last month. Assassin’s Apprentice was so good! Royal Assassin is even better! Jimmy you are 100% spot on when you say Robin Hobbs’ strength is her character work. I’m 25% through RA but I’m taking my time with it because it’s too good to rush through.

My first fantasy series a year and Two months ago when Rhythm of War had just come out was the Stormlight Archive. I was desperate to hear what others thought about what I was reading!! Literally the first channel I found was Lost in Discovery! Loved watching all the content Christian put out and am so grateful to him for it. Thanks man!

Great episode. Going back to your point on big author names outside of booktube, I first discovered Joe Abercrombie through my dad when the first law books were first coming out. His books were so hard to find back then but my dad absolutely loved them. I’ve bought him the age of madness trilogy each year for Christmas but he hasn’t got to them yet 😂

Yes, Jimmy you said it perfectly of why I enjoy slower paced fantasy books! I always feel like I’m going a million mph in life and then reading gives me the chance to finally slow down, catch my breath, and enjoy a nice fantasy tale.

The graphic novel talk made me think of The discworld graphic novels - there're only two, imagine if they adapted all 40 (or so) of them... that would take ages, but I'm sure it would be great. Terry Pratchetts style fits so well with crazy illustrations

I also heavily schedule my days, because time is important and I find myself worrying too much if I don't schedule things. I also can empathize with the sleeping thing as I have chronic insomnia, so having patterns is a must

Oh my god jimmy u started castlevania YESSS!! Its still probably my favorire fantasy animated shwo that ive seen, so fun! I adore Alucard, Trevor and Sypha banter so fucking much. How many episodes have u watched so far? Also Isaac broke into my top 10 favorite characters in fantasy!!

The original title for SA5 before he decided to commit to the pattern was Stones Unhallowed which I like a lot more honestly. I think the pattern idea is cool but I personally think he'd be better off ditching it. It could reflect the series thematically in regard to all the traditions that have been broken in world with the return of the ancient powers

I love Robin Hobb but I don't know how you could get the Wit/Nighteyes relationship with Fitz to work on a live-action show without it coming off cheesy. The Liveships could work but it would take a big budget to make it work.

My biggest complaint about Age of Madness is Gunnar Broad. I don't dislike him by any stretch but I couldn't care less about him. Its weird. In A Little Hatred, Vick was my least favourite and Gunnar was 2nd least favourite and by Trouble with Peace they switched places and by Wisdom of Crowds there was a massive gap between them. I feel similarly Jimmy, I've tackled and or tried most of the Fantasy series I've wanted to read since i got back into reading. To the point that if I wanted to I could tap out from Fantasy for awhile if I wanted.
