He is wrong about the channel layout. You have 16 channels available PER light you have, (up to eight lights in total) so if you have s martin scx 700 set up, and they are 10 channels, you would have 10 faders being used. Now say you added an extra three for a four light total, thats 40 channels you would need, all you do is just select all four fixtures on the fixture select and then do whatever you want with the desk, in short, with this controller you have 128 available channels. NOT 16 it is 16 per fixture.

Thank you. I had a feeling what he was saying was incorrect.

Disregard this video. This is not how the Chauvet Obey 10 DMX controller works at all. Amplified Sound's comment below is accurate about it controlling a total of 8 fixtures with up to 16 channels each. Any DMX channels not used in any fixture are just channels lost. In other words, if you connect a 4-channel DMX controlled lighting device to the Obey 10 fixture 1, DMX channels 1-4 will be used to control that lighting device and DMX channels 5-16 are just lost. Likewise, if you add another 4-channel lighting device to the Obey 10 as fixture 2 you would start the DMX addressing at 17 and use 17-20 (DMX channels 21-32 are again lost). If you add a third lighting device to the Obey 10 as fixture 3 and it's an 8-channel device, it would start at DMX channel 33 and use channels 33-40 (channels 41-48 would be lost). This pattern continues through fixture 8 (the last fixture you can use on this controller) and it would start at DMX channel 113 and can use channels 113-128.

This says very little about the product. I'm not here for an oversimplified description of what DMX is.

I am looking at the Obey40 or the wireless one, which would be great later when I add a few wireless battery powered uplights... along with a pair of Mini Kinta, a 4Play CL, a small laser, fog, and some uplighting. This will be a starter setup. I might add a 4Bar Flex as well. This would give flexible options. Would an Obey 40 or similar bea good starter controller to work with these lights? Thanks for the vids!

If you are comfortable with all of the extra sliders/knobs/buttons.. the larger the unit the more you can do down the road... so, I would recommend if you are thinking you might need the larger, go for it!! :)

discjockeynews Thanks, I have been looking up more on the Obey 40, and it looks simple enough, yet also looks like it will do enough to keep me busy for quite a while. I am looking into the wireless option as I feel that would be good to have should I get some wireless uplighting.... If I can swing the extra $40-50 on the wireless one I will. Thanks again for all your videos... Isaiah

Wrong my friend this vid should be deleted, you are going to confuse the novice, your getting mixed up from fixtures and channels, best to watch 'LearnLizard' how to program DMX lights.

I use this controller and find it works fine. I use it mainly for a moving head.

Hello John, you really don't know how this works do you? Why put up an instructional video when you are new to DMX controllers. I'm exasperated.
