Sorry for the long dry spell of me not being involved with your videos and livestreams. I've still been here, just mostly in the shadows due to life and work schedules. The past couple of years have completely changed the direction of my life and have led to me expecting my first future fish keeper this May. I'm gonna have a lil girl who will be co-raised along with my community of shell dwelling cichlids, big mixed cichlids, tiretrack eel, rare livebearers, and all my other aquatic friends. And Hopeless, my cat, who turned 9 years old today. Glad to see that everything is still going well in your life and house full of fish and shrimp. I'm working hard to develop into a role that can balance being financially independent through my hobbies and passions, while simultaneously being the best, most loving father I can possibly be, just as you have inspired me (and surely many, many others) to do. I've always enjoyed your down to earth nature while balancing the role that fatherhood has given you. You've always been an inspiration to myself, and many other people, and I very much appreciate the knowledge and inspiration that you've gifted to others. Hoping to pop into a livestream soon, but for now I gotta watch a lot of youtube videos about how to care of a baby, and work more hours than I'd like to, to prepare for life as a single father. Thanks for always being true to yourself and your family and for inspiring others not to be afraid to live the lives that they want for themselves. You deserve every fruit of all of your labors, and I'm happy to see that your passion continues to take you places. You're a good dude, Lucas.

@LRB Aquatics -Aquarium Hoarder any reason you went with 5000k over the 6500k?

What a difference. Nice. It sure is great hanging out with fish people even while doing fishroom stuff. Beautiful guppies & I really like those splash tetras. It's nice that they spawn on the lid instead of jumping out of the tank.

Hey, what is the substrate in the bottom left guppy tank (10:35)? I got some of that with a tank I bought but dont know what to call it..

Hello LRB, I heard you say @3:20 that the plants are out of the tank. So if the lights are higher the plants go up? I have my 3200 led shop light sitting right on my tank. Is that enough light and should I put it up higher?
@LRBaquatics4 жыл бұрын
Lots of stem and some other types of plants can grow up and out of the water. You just have to give them space. Its best to use a stronger light since it will have farther to travel to get to the bottom of the tank. So take in consideration the strength of the light on the bottom when spacing it out to move above which determines how high you can raise it.

I have trouble getting my plants to grow. Think it’s my cheap lights. Could you recommend a good but on the cheaper side full spectrum light? It’s for 10 gallon tanks. 👍🏻❤️
@LRBaquatics4 жыл бұрын
Desk lamp with cfl lights work wonders. On ebay they sell aquaneats that are sized to fit over a 10g and they are cheap but dont get the full spectrum get the blue and white its more bright. The full spectrum one doesnt have enough punch.

Ive never kept any but if its like an acara there is alot of ways you can do it. Rock piles and dw or just simple rock placement open water or fully planted. Its up to you. If you want to recreate its biotope then do some research of the area it comes from to try and find what you can use.

I've read 6500k is best for plants, what are your thoughts on that?
@LRBaquatics4 жыл бұрын
I usually use 6500k but its hard to find shop lights at that K. I have had great success with a mix of 6500k and red spectrum lights but cant remember what K they were. I have also had success with many other K's. Theres alot of info and "science" about it. Some think it matters some dont. Ive had my best growth from CFLs in multiple K ranges but I dont believe it was due to the K value but more to the radiation it puts off which plans love unless in a concentrated amount. The sun creates natural radiation for us and the plants.
@2869may4 жыл бұрын
@@LRBaquatics Thanks for the reply, I saw you mention the CFL's to one of the older breeders that you toured. It was funny, he just flat out disagreed with you and mentioned some old clear glass incandescent bulbs he used to get...LOL I've had good luck with CFL's on "other" kinds of plants.... during growth cycle. I have some type of rounder leaf sword that has purple tint in the new leaves but would turn green under an old LED, but when I move some of the runners to a tank with a new LED the purple really pop and stayed purple. Thanks again brother.
@LRBaquatics4 жыл бұрын
@@2869may Thats interesting, the plants I use to run under the CFLs would be so much colorful too. My limnophila aromatica was the best I have ever seen it getting super deep purples and other colors in hard water with no co2, with LED it can struggle to stay alive and stays mostly green. Also my downoi helferi would get red. Im guessing why they arent promoted as much is the fact that having lots of tanks with lots of CFLs could possible concentrate a unhealthy amount of radiation but who really knows the truth on that...

@@LRBaquatics That probably wouldn't be good for sales..... lol
