The first letter Ł is not an L, so it does confuse people who think it's a letter of the Latin alphabet, when it's actually a letter of the Polish alphabet. There are 32 letters in the Polish alphabet: 9 vowels and 23 consonants. Thanks for showing the viewers how to pronounce the name of that beautiful city! :)

The ZREMB lifts actually act inpredictable on inspection. The original design required to flip a switch in the motor room, to make the panel on the top work. That switch also disabled the calls. But on some lifts there were glitches in the relay control or bypasses made by workers. I surfed those lifts a lot when I was a kid, and to be honest there was only one time I remember the inspection panel actually worked (without sneaking into the motor room first of course :D). I think the lift you tried to surf had a problem, because you actually pressed the button signed as "GÓRA" which means UP, and the car started to go down. This is not a normal operation to let you do just one pass on inspection (with incorrect direction) and then lock out itself, there had to be a glitch. Back in 90s if we didn't want to go into the motor room, which was mostly closed shut, we surfed the ZREMBs in normal mode. One kid had to go inside the cabin to press buttons, others were on the top shouting which floor they want to go to. If ones wanted to surf the lift alone, they could go onto the top of the car and just wait until someone gets inside :) Or press random buttons on the panel inside, then safety bypass the door contact and let go when the car went down enough. Even doing that, the relay system would remember the buttons pressed before, and after you get on top and close the shaft door, the lift would go to all the floors you had chosen before :)

I like the name Wooj, and that it's pronounced nothing like it looks. Fantastic factory conversion, and the old building looks fantastic too. Love those old lifts, especially the pre-war one. I love that it has a seat in it. Those folding doors are cool too.

But it is pronounced exactly like it looks. All those letters in different words will make the same sounds. You now know how to read ł - ó - dź

They also have an original EcoDisk lift in the State Library in Melbourne Australia which is very worn down and has had all of it’s original buttons replaced with round 1980s Dewherst with white and blue LEDs. That lift is also mostly overloaded as it’s become too busy in recent times. It was also installed in 2001.

The first and second ZREMBs have a capacity of 320 kg/4 people which is not normal for this type of lift, normally it would be 500 kg/6 people. This shows that there used to be even older ZREMB lifts with manual innerdoors and weight sensor on the floor. These are fine for smaller tenement buildings and a lot of original ones can be found in these buildings in Łódź, Warsaw and Krakow, but for large towers they were unpractical. It's now extremely rare to find an original 50s/60s/70s manual innerdoor ZUD/ZREMB lift in a LPS tower block, most of them have been either replaced with these more typical ZREMB lifts that can handle multiple calls (such as in this case), or modernised with newer technology, or completely replaced. Other than that, these lifts are completely original, even with original positioning systems and original inspection controls.

5:26 does this lift actually use a light bulb for the positioning system? what happens if the light bulb fails? does the lift just lose position and hit the overrun switch? i feel like light bulbs aren't reliable enough for this use
@pshq
@pshq Жыл бұрын
as the lift recognizes its position by the light getting temporarily blocked from sensors on two sides, i believe if the bulb fails, the lift logic recognizes it as both sensors being blocked what happens then, though, i don't know, it probably stops

Some old schindler R series used light bulbs. This seems very unreliable to me. Most of them go replaces with IR sensors or magnet sensors.

It also has "backup" roller switches installed about one meter below the top floor and over the bottom, so if positioning fails, these switches forces the lift to slow down and reset the positioning circuit (you can hear it at 4:05, when the lift is starting). There were some minor changes made to the relay controller over time, so some of these lifts behave differently when the bulb burns out. The older ones fall into endless loop: it goes up, slows down and stop below the floor level. Then it goes down, slows down and stops above the floor level. The newer ones go to the top or bottom floor, slow down on the "backup" switch and stop on the overrun switch. There is a video about it, but unfortunately it's in Polish and there are no subtitles: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aV7MoIZmaZtmmbM

I’ve recently started surfing. I wonder if you could try and help me here. On two of the lifts I’ve done. (An Ecodisc and an MRL generic) there is a cartop light. But no switch for said light on cartop. Pit only has shaft light switch and there are no switches at top of shaft. So that leaves a few places as to where the cartop light switch has been hidden. My only guess would be MRL logic cabinet.
