Cheap Guitar? WTF Ibanez Jem Jr Incredible!

Bought mine at a pawn shop in mint condition, with A road runner case for $315. Incredible. Don't care for the trem, but we can replace that👍🏻. I put a Hip Shot in mine, dont like the floater. All down for me. Bernie Torme

I'm fortunate to own a range of Jems (Japanese and Indonesian) and have 3x 2017 Jrs. The pickups in the White or Black Jrs are Ibanez own Quantum pups (the Yellow or Pink JrSP models have Infinity..). I suspect the Quantums are voiced specifically to do a fair impression of Dimarzio Evolutions - but they are not as good as the Dimarzios. The Standard DL Tremolo is the weak point on these guitars. It can be responsible for a lot of tuning instability and the pot metal block doesn't contribute much natural sustain. However, a fatter Brass Block and a decent set-up can work wonders. If not swap it out for a Gotoh GE1996T. I would agree that with a bit of TLC, these can be fabulous players. They are also great modding platforms. None of mine needed any fretwork. I did shave a few mm off the back of the neck, gave them an oil finish and scalloped frets 21-24. They feel amazing now.. My Pink JrSP has become my absolute favourite and the Standard DL Trem is now as stable as anything I own 🤘

Jem jr. ihas a Meranti wood body, which is some of the softest wood out there, when your floyd studs start to loosen, you will then know why they cost 400 bux. It's an illusion bro...best of lluck, you get what you pay for.

It’s a great guitar for the price the soft wood if studs do come loose some picture and wood glue . You do get what you pay for But for guitars in this price range it’s great I have guitars worth a lot of money to guitars like this. . It’s great for what it is. The real Jems I have are better but for gigging guitarist like cover bands your don’t wanna bring out a couple of 2-3k guitars and han them stolen. But you are correct you get what u can pay for is how I like to say it!

Meranti isn't as soft as Basswood and that's what many of the Fujigen Jems were made from (including the original Jem777s...). Yes, you "do get what you pay for" most of the time but a guitar is two bits of wood and a few metal parts. Mostly cheap stuff to upgrade. The high-end stuff sells on reputation as much as anything

Yeah the Jem jr sounded great stock only pickups I really like are single coil fender noiseless. Or if you do a lot of shows you want to sound consistent. Most pickups sound great these days even the China ones sound pretty good

Man, I was at Guitar Center a couple weeks ago and couldnt pass up a used JEM Jr. in Shocking Pink, with a Dimarzio (?) rail humbucker in the bridge position, grabbed it and don't regret it. Now, I gottta replace the two strings I broke testing it out... popped two strings out of the bridge saddle clamps 😂😂😂, but they threw in a free set of strings for me. 👍

@@jittboy1 yes that is true. But there were at least four to five other players who tried out other than George and Jake. Where then Jake got the nod. Jake in my opinion was the best replacement since Randy. And I like George and Zakk. I think Zakk reminded Ozzy more of Randy, with his looks, guitar type, and somewhat style.Randy and George were friends, George even showed Randy some of his licks.Randy has stated several times that George can be scary on the guitar. Remember George is self taught not technically trained. And can still hold his own with his creativity and signature sound.
