Hey everyone, I just wanted to establish this so people can understand what I meant at the end of the video. This cable is the best CHEAP one stop solution option I've found to get the original Sega Genesis into HD using an HDMI cable. There are far better and way more expensive options out there that give you a better look. I've been told that a company called HD Retrovision produces a great component cable for the Genesis that has a really nice image. I've personally never used it though so I didn't want to compare something I have not tested. There is also the added problem that newer TVs might not accept component input and so it would require a converter to make it HDMI. If all you are looking for is a simple converter to get the Sega Genesis into HD that has a built in HDMI cable that's what this is recommended for. It isn't a replacement for more expensive and higher quality solutions that provide sharper and better images.
@MaidenHell19775 жыл бұрын
The HD Retrovision Component cables are very expensive, especially for Canadians after the exchange rate, about $100 CDN but in my opinion worth every penny. But you have to have an HD display that can display 240P That being said, I use them on a 36" CRT and the difference is shocking vs. the standard composite signal. They also work on the Neo Geo.

@derekned5 жыл бұрын
The scrolling jitter is due to the fact that the converter is treating the 240p as 480i and then deinterlacing it (badly), and also creating a lot of input lag. I bought a different Pound cable for the PS1 and was shocked by how terrible it was. The only good thing I can say about these cheap Pound HDMI converters is that they are plug and play, which is good for people who just want the thing to work and don't care about the quality.

There's a big problem with the model 1 Genesis: it only outputs mono sound through the DIN socket on the back. It only outputs stereo through the headphone jack on the front which forces model 1 Genesis owners to get a headphone to composite adapter to output stereo sound to their TVs. Since this converter only takes output through the DIN socket on the back, it will only output mono sound through the converter, and that's a deal breaker that they obviously didn't think about.

The picture quality is pretty good, but you can get better results for only around $200. You need an OSSC (which you can use for any system) and some RGB SCART Cables. This Pound cable is blowing out the colours, making them too bright. The juddering is also caused by using 4:3 on a modern LCD, which isn’t the fault of the Pound. If you just want to replay some old Mega Drive games, then this is a pretty great option, as it has incredible value for money, far sharper than composite, but not as good as an Analogue Mega SG or an RGB gaming setup.

Honestly, if you have a lot of consoles and you're willing to spend money to get the best out of them, get an OSSC or Framemeister. They are expensive, and you still need scart cables, but you are simply not going to get better quality out of real hardware. It's definitely a long term purchase as well, because TV's with analogue connections are getting increasingly more difficult to get. I am still absolutely shocked how good consoles like the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, and Sega Megadrive look! In addition to that, you can completely customize how the image is zoomed in, so you can remove the colored border around Sega Megadrive games, or the black border around Gamecube and Ps2 games.
