I have done Bosch 4 Port Injectors on 2 XJ's, 1 TJ, and 1 ZJ (all 4.0) and all have seen a 1.5-2mpg increase and a great kick in throttle response. Best $80 you could spend for the 4.0!

Also, can someone tell me at what height (lift kit), you need to start adjusting the angle of the rear diff?
@AdmiralOffRoad9 жыл бұрын
Matt J. it depends on whether or not you're changing your shackles. For me, when i went to 3.5 in of lift with stock rear shackles, i had to do a tcase drop but didnt need shims to adjust the angle. when i went to 4.5, i got longer shackles which changed the rear pinion angle and had to use degree shims to correct it.
@coloradotrophyfishing9 жыл бұрын
Admiral Off-Road Excellent. So, say I want to keep the Tcase angle stock and do a mild 2" lift-should I be adjusting the rear angle or is it ok stock? I'm just wondering what the driveshaft and Ujoints can take within reason. I'd like to do a real mild lift just so I can clear downed trees-we have a ton of fire damaged and downed trees up here. I'm not looking to go wild, I just want a little bit more clearance. What do you suggest? (I'm new to jeeps, but I've been building sandrails for years. But you never have to worry about drive shaft in sand cars-they're all transaxles)

I was hoping you would mention seat options. The durability of XJ seats is so poor. I have a '96 XJ Country package with torn sears. I love the way they look. Unfortunately, reupholstering is not an option since the foam gets all mushed up.

4:38 Actually in 1996 they switched from 27 to 29 splined. However there is no way to know which one you have on a 96 build. You have to pull the shaft and count. So yes, if you want to be sure, buy a 1997+ 8.25 rear end.

Great channel dude! I appreciate the info and your desire to share what you know. Somehow I've managed to acquire 3 ZJ's. None ran, however, I'm now driving the 97 with a 5.2. Managed to cobble one together from the 3 and love it. So you've got me thinking "lift" and bigger wheels. Any way to find out exactly what problems I'd run into doing a 3" lift? It would be nice knowing them or parts needed ahead of time. Thanks!
@AdmiralOffRoad8 жыл бұрын
Most likely would be steering issues. The increased angle of the drag link can put more stress on the steering components. Make sure you check your brake lines aren't being pulled tight when you are fully flexed. I'm not sure on the ZJ, but with the XJ, 3-3.5 is the highest that I would go with a stock track bar.
@TYFI310929 жыл бұрын
WJ rotors and brakes won't work on XJs. They are a different bolt pattern. The XJs are 5x4.5 and the WJs are 5x5. It makes me sense that the ZJ brake setup would work.

Xjuan Cherokaa The 8.8 is a great option for an axle swap. I mentioned in the video that I was just going to talk about axles that came stock on the XJs. Swapping to another axle not used on an XJ usually requires welding new spring perches and shock mounts which really isn't difficult but its enough of a change that I wouldn't consider it just a bolt on swap.

My first car, a 98 ZJ sport, I'm trying to restore it, I didn't change much, but when I drive it and hit a bump the left rear makes a horrible noise, the car had an accident, but I think the problem is in the leaf springs, any suggestion? Thanks, great video! Subscribed!

@rialbufames40238 жыл бұрын
+Admiral Off-Road the noise sounds very metallic, I've ordered new bushings for the leaf springs, btw I haven't changed the rear shocks
@AdmiralOffRoad8 жыл бұрын
+Alessandro Buffa I had something similar when i hit a small sharp bump, like a deep manhole cover I had a noise, but not when i hit a bigger bump like a speed bump. It ended up being my shock bushing being worn out. If the new leaf spring bushings don't fix the sound, I'd check the shocks next.

Hi, I was lucky enough to get my first jeep which is a 99 Cherokee Sport 4.0 with only 55,000 original miles on it. I changed all the fluids and put nice rims on it. it is in mint condition however the suspension is a little tired feeling. I don't want to get into lifting it really high up, I just noticed that the back tire (usually the RR tire) hits the top of the wheel well over heavy bumps and dips. Suggestions?
@AdmiralOffRoad9 жыл бұрын
+Richard Graham Does it sit level? I'd check shocks first and then the leaf springs. If the leaf springs are sagging, replace the whole pack. Don't get an add-a-leaf if your original leaf pack is worn out.
@RICKROCKERTHEORIGIONAL9 жыл бұрын
+Admiral Off-Road Thanks for the quick reply. yes the leafs are a little rusty and wore out. Should I get new stock leafs or leafs from another type of vehicle. If from another vehicle, will I need to do any mods?
@RICKROCKERTHEORIGIONAL9 жыл бұрын
+Richard Graham BTW....yes there is a little sagging. The shocks seem fine.
@AdmiralOffRoad9 жыл бұрын
+Richard Graham If you want to use another vehicle's stock leaf springs, I'd go with Chevy s10 or Dodge Dakota. If you keep your stock main leaf, cut the eyes off the main leaf from the donor leaf pack and add it to the stock XJ pack. They are thicker than the stock XJ leaf springs and should help the sagging. They will still allow the main leaf to sag a bit, but will prevent the other leafs from sagging. The only modification to the XJ leaf spring pack would be a longer centering pin and new leaf spring retainers. You can also buy a new XJ leaf pack and not have to worry about any sagging, but that is a more expensive option. Using another vehicle's leaf springs will probably add a bit of lift. I got about 3.5 in from my stock XJ main spring with a full s10 leaf pack, but this can be adjusted by adding or removing leaf springs to change ride height.

They Devin I have a question for you. When you installed the Ford Thunderbird coils in XJ, what did you install on top of coils at the bump stop? The Thunderbird coils have a larger inner coil diameter than the XJ. Thanks.
@AdmiralOffRoad9 жыл бұрын
I used the top of the thunderbird strut. I cut a hole in the middle of it so it would fit over the XJ bump stop. If you flip the top of the strut upside down, it will give you about 3.5 in lift. If you leave it right side up, it will give you a little more lift.
@rah1217609 жыл бұрын
+Admiral Off-Road Thank you. So if I install the Thunderbird spring isolator with the coil how much lift will I see?
@AdmiralOffRoad9 жыл бұрын
+Rah121760 also remove the stock XJ isolator. If you flip the Tbird isolator upside down, you should get around 3-3.5 in (depending on how worn the springs are) and if you leave the Tbird isolator right side up, it should be closer to 5 in.

you said the shackles will add about 1/2 inch in lift (from the MJ) so if I get 3 inch coils, jk rubicon shocks, s10 leafs AND MJ shackles I'll be sporting a 3 1/2 inch lift? Just want to clarify :) I'll bug you too but I want the Overhead console from the country trim as well as electric side mirrors (I have a crashed xj with the parts) do you know or can refer me on how to install them? Thanks for reading its ok if you don't know but thought I'd ask!
@AdmiralOffRoad8 жыл бұрын
+Ramiro Ramirez With the MJ shackles and the s10 leafs you should be around 3.5 in the rear. I would go with 3.5 in coils to match. Keep in mind, that with used leaf springs from the s10, you might end up with slightly more or less lift depending on the condition of the leaf springs. You can , however adjust this by adding or removing leaf springs until you get the height and ride that you want. As for installing the overhead console, here is a writeup that i found on the process: go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoOverheadConsole.htm . What year XJ are the mirrors going on?

+Admiral Off-Road wow thanks for that link it's just what I need! I see, thanks for that thorough explanation I'll definitely be picking up some 3.5 coils to make this work! It's going to a 96 country and coming from a 95 country

+Admiral Off-Road just taking off the power mirrors off the jeep
@AdmiralOffRoad8 жыл бұрын
+Ramiro Ramirez If you've already got speakers or power locks/ windows, then it will be easier to run the wires to the mirrors, since there will already be a hole and grommet for the wires to get from the door to the inside of the Jeep. Are you also planning on replacing the switch panel on the door or is there room somewhere else for you to put the mirror controls?

If you are really trying to save money, used T bird coils can be had for very cheap but I wouldn't spend the money for new ones. @AdmiralOffRoad7 жыл бұрын
you can move your front coils to the back and get about 3.5-4 in of lift. That way you only need to buy new front coils/spacers. That along with some fender trimming should allow you to fit 35s. Along with that, you will need longer shocks and brake lines. Re-gearing is also a good idea when going to 35s although that is not cheap

With $800 i would get a good set of shocks, some Rubicon Express coil springs (i like mine and picked them up on an amazon sale for a little under $100) If you buy new leaf springs, buy a full pack, not just an add-a-leaf or build your own XJ/S10 bastard pack. You will most likely need some longer brake lines. Dodge Dakota rear brake line and jeep YJ front brake lines well and will give you the extra length you need. An adjustable track bar is a good idea, especially if you plan to go higher in the future. I had a 3.5 in lift with the stock track bar and the front axle was only slightly moved towards the driver side, but when i went to 4.5 I had to get a longer one.

Includes shipping everything from Amazon if you have prime slighty more with out it. then for my Jeep the rear leafs are worn out so I plan on getting used leafs out of an 01 Cherokee in the junk yard, I can pick up the pair for less than $50.
