In Finland we call those ships "drilling rigs", everyone can probably figure out why 😉

yeah those boats are quite litterally floating night clubs with a bed to crash on when you get too drunk. always have been even from since i was little (i'm 44 now) also the name for that kind of boat/ship is the same name we use for drilling rigs so you only have to add the drilling part ...... if you get lucky

also super super super kudos for the ingenuity. even i would not have had the idea to get cheap accommodation on those in helsinki even though i live next to the harbour and have had cruises for 5 euros or even litterally 0 euros for a whole private room :D

It was literally our only cheap option and considering the ship was mostly empty, turned out to be a great option!

We enjoyed your tour of Helsinki and it was a great idea to sleep on a cruise boat. A little cozy (if you don't mind separate beds) but better than 12 others looking on! The boat looked like fun with the sundeck. But do you have much sunlight in a Finnish winter? We do see from your description why you went to Finland in the winter. More courage than us! Loved watching though and are looking forward to the future videos. Thanks so much for bringing us along.

We too have those moments when traveling that the only thing on my mind is sleep and we refuse to even entertain the thought of anything else! That room is compact but it checks all the boxes of privacy, warmth and a safe place to sleep! Thanks to Ryan for redoing the tour without the cricket alarm 😂

That cruise is mainly to ship people to and from work. Alot of Estonians work in Finland. The cruises where people party are longer, like 24-48h on the sea. People do use this same idea to get cheap nightsleep in Helsinki. Good thinking. :)

You guys are great because you are so grounded and genuine. And budget travelling too, which is far more interesting compared to the usual overt capitalism glorification in this videos. It easily gets so absurd, although i do understand it. The shared room hostels should cost way less! I was shocked. Compared to let's say Germany, where i've been the last time in a shared hostel. Then again, it's Helsinki, but even still... It got me thinking, that perhaps the maritime laws allow for cheaper accommodation since they are at water. And perhaps, they make most of their money by other means. Alcohol, food, parties etc. Because at land, the landowners can choose whatever the rent and go overboard. But the sea doesn't seem to ask any rents.
@lostamonglocals5382
@lostamonglocals5382 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind comment. You might be right!I hadn't thought to consider maritime law as the reason. Ww have been told that these cruise lines are mostly used to take workers back and forth from Estonia, but I don't know that to be true. Either way, we were glad to find it!! Thanks for watching.
@villemononen5303
@villemononen5303 Жыл бұрын
@@lostamonglocals5382 I think that's about right. For workers, and mostly finnish people / work groups / organizations that go there to party crazy and get cheaper alcohol etc. from Estonia. Or just travel to Estonia. Now with the new generation and more awareness the general alcohol consumption is going down, so the haydays of these cruise ships are fading. So, maybe more workers nowadays? Just guessing. They often work in construction etc.
@lostamonglocals5382

Haha, yes, one viewer did tell us they were party/hookup ships, but then another replied and said no that's a different one, so we have no idea, but when we went it was quiet and mostly empty

Well that was a screaming deal!!! Really, if all you were going to do for the night anyway was sleep, then why not. And who cares how big the room is, or isn't. LOL! And what a great experience. Gonna put this in the memory banks for sure when the day comes that we go to Finland. Thanks for the tip and the great video! Debbie & Stijn

its absolutely crazy that you stayed on a ferry for the night after a transatlantic flight. I couldn't do it because the ship moves up and down over the waves and its hard to sleep at night.
