Not necessary If the roots are short or the plant isn't very big then you can just plant it on the upper layer because if its a small plant then it can suffocate and die if planted too deep And make sure if there are leaves near the root and take them off before planting because they tend to get injured and melt and because they are attached to plant it can melt the main plant too so just take off the leaves from bottom if you are using trimming of other plant or the plant doesn't have alot of root

They give alot, you can't see them but the O2 they release is pure o2 so it's enough

@@NicK-qc6nm if you have a few plants or small saplings then maybe the oxygen supplied by them would be less but if you have a moderately planted aquarium where plants occupy around 30-40% area then it would supply enough oxygen where an air pump etc wont be required. Coupled with that you have your monthly water changes which would further add more oxygen to water.

There are many on Amazon with different prices I bought from local nursery and organic means there is no chemical or harmful stuff so you can use any organic potting soil but see that it says organic soil not organic fertilizer bc both are different
