FYI the Edu app does support all the sounds and motions that the original one did. It’s not as easy to access them, but they are there. In some ways it’s actually more powerful as you can basically program it to any sequence you like, rather than just the fixed presets from the branded app. Also the old app is still available to side load for Android and if you ever downloaded it even once on IOS, you can still get it in your own account under “My purchases”. You can’t find it listed in the App store any more. So if you used to own one of the other models, you can use the same app for R2. The only feature that doesn’t work any more is the watch-along where the droid would react to the movies as you watch (which was pretty great actually). That one required some extra data that can’t be downloaded any more.

I recently got one, yeah the app is gone but it's still voice activated... R2 doing his own thing is very suitable for his personality

I'm so sad it doesn't do all the functions it was designed for, it had great sound and would dance and shake and fall over. It does look excellent with my Luke skywalker and I have the black one as well which had a different voice than r2 and the two of them did not like each other. He was great because you could put him in patrol mode and he would go on about his business making chirps and beeps and you could put on a star wars movie and watch it with him and he would react to the scenes when r2 was on. It's such a shame because it's a really nicely built droid and the only one I have seen that is able to retract and extend his third leg and use it properly. Also all the lights do not come on as the small panel lights used to light up as well

Hey mate I've not actually seen that before. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling. Also clearing your cache

It depends on the App you're using. If you're using the original APP (not the last from sphero) you can't update, but you don't need to update at all :)
