I always told my wife this was how I felt about her. Lost her to cancer 3 years ago after nearly 42 years of marriage. Hearing this hurts so much now. "You were the first, you'll be the last". True words in my case. I can't imagine being with anyone else. I miss the 80's and the life we shared back then.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I lost my husband to heart disease 4+ years ago after almost 46 years together. Tears help healing, along with time, memories and the good Lord. Blessings and prayers to you.

@@shirleybhs9zd6li5i Thank you and I'm so sorry for your loss. The tears I've shed haven't eased the pain yet. I don't think I have enough years left for time to to make a difference. I lost my father 51 years ago and time has moderated his passing but it still hurts. I hope you are able to heal. I know you understand the pain. Again thank you for your kind words.

@@steveturner3999 Know that we both have plenty of tears left until we next see our loved ones. Tears can feel like a cleansing of our souls, if we can also laugh at the joy they brought us. Peace friend.

Saw them on concert 1988 in Oakland CA. They played this song and everyone got out their lighters. You could smell the singe of our Aqua Net 80’s hair

Oh wow. I haven't heard this song for a long time. Love it. Thanks for starting my Monday afternoon off right. Great reaction, Shawn. Blessings all.

Saw these guys back in '79..Evansville, IN...great show...Robin Zander is right up there with RJD, Ian Gillan, Rik Emmett, Steve Perry, Brad Delp, Darryl Hall, Bruce Dickinson, etc..World class vocalist.

It’s my favorite song by Cheap Trick, which was actually written for somebody else, but they turned it down. Cheap trick, accepted it and became one of their biggest hits.

The Power Ballad is a sub-type of Love Ballad. It follows a formula which includes that electric guitar towards the end.

Cheap Trick is a great live band. There is nobody else like them. Rick Neilson on lead is a character. Tom Peterson plays a 12-string bass. Bun E. Carlos is a stealth rocker. Robyn Zander has one of the best voices I heard live ever.

This is a perfect song. #1 song in America in 1988. I don't get into song formulas . . . pollutes the listening experience.

Ya gotta hit the album CHEAP TRICK AT BUDOKAN - one of the greatest Live albums around (16,000 screaming kids in the background accentuates the energy). It's the album that brought them fame back home in the 'States.

This song ranks #3 on my top five favorite ballads! I saw them and Heart together a few months ago!!

Great band 🏁 Their name could refer to a cheap sex act, or the john who solicits it. But also their visual element was a cheap trick. With Rick and Bun E looking a bit like squares, with Robin and Tom looking real hip. Dig Surrender and I Want You To Want Me, live at Budokan, Japan! That was actually the hit version! They were a mass sensation there around '78! 💥🏁🎤🏁🎸🏁🥁🏁

A huge radio and chart hit--but the beginning of the end (creatively) for the band.

Yes!… Another Power Ballad from the 80’s, next one should be from Great White, "Save Your Love” (lead vocalist, Jack Russell who just died age 63 on 8/7/24, RIP), followed by Cutting Crew, "(I Just) Died In Your Arms” (these two won’t remind you of others you may have already heard from this era).

This is a great song but like they said, don’t let it fool you. You’re probably thinking of the right song. It is a bit faster.

Shawn, check out some of their live music from their concert, Live at Budokan! Filmed in 1978. This song is not really true to their sound at all. I saw them on that tour. Best concert I've ever been too!!! Try, I Want You to Want Me. Ain't That a Shame and many more. You'll love them. Thanks so much Shawn. Keep up the great work!

Does Robin Zander have pipes or what? Another singer like that is Getty Lee from Rush. (Yes I'm going there)🤩🤩 I can rock with them, but I confess this will always be my favorite. Saw Cheap Trick in Berzerkley in the early 80s. Then again first concert after COVID restrictions drop at Reno's Atlantis Casino Fun fact: Cheap Trick didn't write this song, and they didn't want to record it. Ironically, it's their only song to reach #1

Wikilies is at again....Cheap trick being called "hair metal" is laughable. I guess if you made a record and it had a guitar and somebody with long hair then they think its was hair metal i guess......i hate this need to label everything for this reason tight here. Its a power ballad from a rock band......period.
