I get that you wanted a really really quick fix. Should try taking one cushion, carefully pull the old upholstery piece off and disassemble it so you have patterns. Then cut your new material after tracing the old piece, sew what might need to be sewn, then staple it on. Im gonna give it a try.

Love that you just went out and did this, weren't hung up on perfection, just improvement and learning. It's perfectly good enough, a major improvement over what was there before. I'm sure your next ones were even better. I saw a few videos from "SailRite" before, and they are upholstery pros, but who is going to do a pro level job in their first crack at this? Yeah, a few, but probably not most. You showed that a non-pro can take a stab at it and get a result that is way better than what was there before. This video inspired me... to have my girlfriend re-do the boat upholstery for me! Do watch a couple SailRite upholstery videos, the way they put slits in the vinyl to mold it around corners... easy to watch, not so easy to get their pro-level results if you don't do it 8 hours a day every day.

Just a quick tip. Start by stapling from the center outwards, you will have less end wrinkles to work out. Also use either copper or stainless steel staples so not to rust out after a few seasons.

This is actually super helpful! We're looking for a cheap (temporary) fix too and the end result still looked great for you so hopefully we can do the same! Thanks!

You did a good job. Just a pointer on your corners cut a triangle shape cut then staple your corner it helps to avoid the crease

Thank you. What an easy cost effective temporary fix. Just like replacing fabric on dining chairs.

Definitely good for a first try- I've been doing this for 7 years. One tip is just cut your ends and tuck them as tight as you can.

Here's a tip flip it first to start. Put a inch on the long side tack and apply small pressure. Tack the far side cut. You will save alot of material in the long run.

So, *bandaid* all the other cushions too: Just pull them from the boat a bit,on top, insert new vinyl behind each one,screw the panel back,and just drape the new vinyl down from the top a few inches,just enough to hide the rot, and then *properly* glue (i use glue spray cans,very convenient!)the new to the old; just make sure you use a ruler and a sharp blade to cut the new in a nice straight line. the chief has spokin

Yeah I saw the SailRite people, in their videos, used a garment steamer for this type of thing. Those people are PROs. Loved this guy's video because it showed first-time reality for typical DIYers.

Hey man. I had been searching how to do this and that is why I landed in this video :). I havent done it myself. What I saw in another video is that they start attaching or stapling on the long sides first and then move to the corners. On the corners u make cuts if the curve goes to the inside, and you cut and remove “V” sections when the curve is to the outside. I hope u understand what I said bec I dont hahhaha jk :) thanks for the video ;)

You need to buy a boat cover. $50 at Wal-Mart. I have a 1990 Bayliner still looks new because I keep it covered.

What do y'all use for stapling the vinyl cover into? I used varnished wood a few years ago, and it became terribly moldy.
@rileycover13164 жыл бұрын
You need to use treated wood. Just ask any store about weather treated sheets. Heavy as shit though
@zatrogamer2 жыл бұрын
Marine grade plywood. Pressure treated wood is treated with chemicals that can leech into the water, also pressure treated plywood has voids that water can enter and rot it out from the inside. Marine grade plywood does not have anywhere near as many voids.

Your cusions looked almost as bad as my leaning post. Don't worry about the corners, that shit turned out a million times better than it was before you reupholstered it. I'll be happy if mines comes out half as good as yours, thanx dude for making the video. Do you remember how much you paid for the material/vinyl fabric?

Man i cant believe he didn't tell you to remove the old stuff don't take advice from that dude anymore bro...or get some spray glue and a pizza cutter and press the fabric into those main stitch lines and then pull it tight look up wrapping a speaker box they will teach you the correct way to cut your corners and make them nice and neat before stapling

Man I don't wanna be rude. But here it is Remove your old covers Get a thin piece of foam (similar to sew foam) If you're not gonna stitch it, pull it damn tight. Stretch your corners first, when it comes to a point, fold on each side, a 90 can be 1 fold. Consider using a bit of heat. Since you don't have an industrial steamer, you can use a heat gun with caution, or toss the entire piece in the dryer. Finally, leave the extra till its wrapped then trim it
