They’re called macarons. Macaroons are something completely different. A macaroon is a ball of grated coconut, sweetened and baked in the oven until golden brown, that are then dipped in chocolate so that the chocolate just covers the bottom of the coconut ball. Or alternatively, macaroon (not *a* macaroon, *just* macaroon) is a bar of coconut, covered in a layer of chocolate with more grated coconut on the outside. Macaroon is a different dish. It’s a Scottish dish made of sweet potatoes and is generally (where I come from, so uh, Scotland where it’s made) dipped in chocolate and then coconut. It’s really sweet and quite hard in consistency. Not at all like a macaron lol.

I've never heard of Scottish macaroons, but in Australia grew up with coconut macaroons that were basically a soft, sweet coconut cookie! Either way, I agree that what is made here in the video is a macaron and not a macaroon 😂 I just watched a video of someone making the macaroons you described, and they look heavenly 🤤 thanks for sharing that piece of your culture!

1) macarons not macaroons 2) you have to tap the pans to get the air bubbles out before you put them in the oven. You may have done that but I couldn’t tell 3) the macarons barely have feet, if any 4) I don’t think the shells should be that brown. I understand a little browning just from baking but it shouldn’t be that drastic of a difference with macarons 5) just from view alone, your meringue looked a little under whipped, I could be wrong but that’s just from my perspective 6) it looked like you didn’t let them set to get a film over the top of the cookies for backing, which could really be the cause of a lot of problems 7) just in my personal experience, I’ve found that a French meringue works much better in macarons than a Swiss meringue, but that’s just my personal preference 8) I just wanted an even number but anyway that’s it. No hate just trynna help

Macaroon with a double o has been the English spelling for centuries. It’s only recently that American’s have gone back to the French spelling to avoid confusion with coconut macaroons. Macaroon is still a common English spelling outside of North America.

Pro tip: If you want pudding that uses milk substitutes that is closer to the consistency of regular pudding, use two packages of pudding to one part of milk substitute. You really need the cornstarch that is present to get that thicker texture. It works with milk easily, but milk substitutes are mostly water, so you need more thickening.
