There is no question that Woodpecker tools are well-made, shiny, attractive, and damn near irresistible. I have always felt that their expert marketing ("One-Time Tools") made me feel like an eight year old wanting that NFL football or some shiny toy for Christmas. The problem for me was that the time required to setup and successfully use so many of those shiny tools exceeded the skill and time i had. On the other hand I have not been disappointed by their well made and precise measuring tools.

Most Woodpeckers tool are best in class. But the spline jig is not. The stop blocks do not fasten securely and do not hold the work piece reliably. Their movement has ruined multiple boxes for me. Also, the jig cannot run on a router table T-track. Both are serious engineering design defects. Do not buy.

You make a good point that some Woodpeckers tools are excellent values at reasonable cost. I ordered an expensive but fiddly "one-time" tool from Woodpeckers that I could not make work like the video demonstration on Woodpeckers website. It was likely my lack of woodworking skill or patience in setting the tool up that cause my disappointment, but I know that I was not alone in my opinion. In any event when I returned the tool I added a note advising Woodpeckers to always make tools where their manufacturing precision made the difference, e.g. tools like the edge rule and the paolini pocket rule. Every woodworker at all skill levels can appreciate those tools.

Good afternoon young man. I always look forward to your videos on tool reviews. Because of your review on the Skill Table Saw, I purchased it and have not been disappointed. A am asking if you can do a product review for a new Harbor Freight product. The have just introduced a BAUER 24 in. Fence and Miter Gauge. It looks similar to the miter gauge you reviewed recently (VEVOR Precision Miter Gauge) but the Harbor Freight is only 45.00. I know you are always looking for great deals and I was not sure if you knew that they came out with this. Thank you and look forward to hearing back. Gary

I have the miter gauge and have never regretted it. It’s never had to be recalibrated and the zero clearance inserts are so easy to make. Best miter bar Ive used yet. The biggest thing for me was they had the ability to get the fence 90 with the table. I know my rockler had no way to do it and I hated shimming it so heavily and popping the shims back out of sight every time I moved the fence. I haven’t regretted anything from woodpeckers. Love their bits and blades too

Mr. Outlaw, thanks to you I was picked up the deadnuts square to figure out a miter saw that kept frustrating me was no good. @@bernitup6492 Yep. With those box store level tools some will be square and some won’t. The cost of having at least a few dead accurate reference tools is absolutely worth it, just like having quality straight edges. Solves a lot of problems that cause major frustration and make woodworking less enjoyable. Some of my starret stuff is almost 20 years old now working just like new.

I am curious about the miter gauge. Many of the videos I’ve watched (possibly even yours) say to toss the miter gauge and build a cross cut sled instead. I know the purpose of this video is to focus on woodpecker tools but I’m just beginning to build my shop and relying on you and a couple other folks for guidance. I appreciate all your videos and for pouring into newbs like myself. So, do I keep my Delta miter guide, toss it or upgrade it?
@bartholomewgreatpants3425
@bartholomewgreatpants3425 Ай бұрын
Most table saws, even crazy expensive cabinet saws, come with lack luster miter guages. It's ridiculous, really. Most upgrade. A good rule of thumb is if your Guage is made mostly of plastic, toss it, and upgrade it. Once you feel confident enough to make an accurate crosscut sled. Do so, but if ya just need to do a couple quick cuts, an accurate miter Guage is a good thing to have.

Sorry, Matt, you're way off on that WP miter gauge -- like the tool itself. First, the little extension piece on the fence wasn't flush with the main fence. I had to install a large fender washer to get it close. The little plastic stop also cracked the second time I used it. But the main problem - and the one reason you shouldn't buy it - is the design of the head itself. Those indexing holes are great for setting up the angle, but holding the angle while in use is totally dependent on the handle screw. And it doesn't hold, no matter how tight I set it. By the time I finished cutting 8 rails for a cabinet project, the angle was off by nearly 4 degrees. I can safely say the only good component on the whole thing is the miter slot bar. Don't waste your money. Get the Incra or other quality gauge with indexing slots. My WP miter gauge is in my "lesson learned' junk pile.

For allen keys I superglue or epoxy a neodymium magnet or two to the tool it adjusts so I can stick keep it with the tool it's adjusting. There is always some out of the way place that it can go on (maybe on the miter gauge stick it between the screws the fence attaches to). Also the Woodpecker's sales are no joke. A couple years ago I got a Forrest Woodworker II blade from them for $66. I couldn't click the order button fast enough on that one.

Not sure why everyone is so obsessed with buying a perfect square. The square you use has nothing to do with how well the cut ends up. It’s the cutting tool we should spend our time and money on. Heck setting up a miter saw to cut square you don’t even need a square to make sure the saw cuts square. Just take a fairly long board and cut it in half. Turn one side over and place them next to your table saw fence. If the chop saw did not make a square cut you will twice the amount of missed angle. Simple, only cost you a piece of lumber.

The stealth stop miter gauge is good as long as you are using the detents. It's bad if you aren't. No matter how hard you crank down on the knob it shifts and that is really frustrating when you are on leg 4 of a table that required accurate half laps and you have to now go buy more wood because the *^%$#$#@* thing shifted! Ok I feel better now! And yes the allen key stinks. I have no problem keeping up with it but it's a pain to adjust and I have small hands. Can't imagine you men out there with big hands! Also, the "track" the stop block rides in "catches" wood if you are stacking pieces to cut simultaneously and can affect your cut. I believe they have upgraded the system. I hope it's better as I was very disappointed at the usability based on the price!

While I am no fan of the woodpecker brand , I feel they are an overrated , over priced status symbol flex and nothing more . That said this miter gauge just may be the first thing I’ve seen from them that offers a fair value for the money. The stock miter gauge that comes with even with high end saws are generally difficult to make accurate cuts with. Most should be straight up thrown out. No matter what saw you have an upgraded miter gauge will improve your cuts . If I was in the market for a miter gauge in this price range ,there are several brands I would consider first. But I can’t bash this product for being over priced.

The ubiquitous allen key locking mechanism for this fence stop as well as for Incra's miter gauge is entirely absurd. These companies make such otherwise-great products... only to fall victim to a terrible adjustment/locking system that requires a tool (which is never where you want it to be). Onboard storage of the allen key helps... but c'mon guys. Solve this.

That Delve square is absolutely ridiculously priced for what it is. All of those features are negated by a cheap marking gauge, that is more accurate. Otherwise its just a less useful overpriced speed square

Woodpeckers has never paid me a single penny or given me a single tool. Calm down. Not everything is a big conspiracy “hawking” tools 🙄. And DFM hasn’t paid me or given me a tool to make a video or put their tools in videos. I’ve bought and paid for both Woodpeckers and DFM.

No mistake, Incra tools are better than Woodpeckers in my opinion. I feel that Incra tools are just as precise, just as well made, but lighter and easier to set up and use.

Woodpeckers rulers is a joke really. Shile ues they're accurate but so arent any amazon knock off. KZbinrs are doing videos left snd right on them as well and there's no reason to charge $100 for a machine to laser etch aluminum.

Clearly you are in the wrong hobby if ya want cheap. Woodworking is not a cheap hobby. For what these tools offer most are a good bargain. And for what it’s worth I don’t own one woodpecker. But by the end of the day I will be ordering a their miter gauge. I like the looks of it

lol lost touch? Over the last 2 months I’ve featured tools from Harbor Freight, RYOBI, SKIL, KOBALT, and more. How’s that losing touch? No need to over react becasue you don’t like Woodpeckers tools.

If you sign up for their email you can sometimes actually get decent deals. The T square was 25% off recently and I love it. The mitre gauge competes with other more expensive brands and is probably more than most need (and very accurate). Of course a lot of their items are premium and premium priced, but you pay for the assurance of accuracy and quality (and name brand, of course). Sometimes, though, it can be a decent cost to do so.

?? 😂 Lost my ability to relate to the “common woodworker?” You’re not a regular viewer I assume. Over the last couple of months I’ve made a BUNCH of videos featuring budget friendly tools including SKIL, Harbor Freight, WEN, RYOBI, KOBALT, KREG, and more. Just because I make ONE video about Woodpeckers doesn’t mean I’ve lost touch. Over reaction much? 🤷🏻‍♂️
