My love cage is big, it's 6.5 ft(w) x 20 ft(l) x 8 ft(h), and they mate like crazy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 also my food for my larvae is waste food and manure surrounding my place, lucky also cause surrounding me i got markets, groceries, restaurants and also pastures, so I got unlimited food for my larvae, i just started with only wild bsf, and within 2 weeks, I didn't collect them at all, I let them all become flies, and after that, its automation and I just keep adding their containers for the larvae to grow big, they also self harvest themselves when they are already big, and 10 percent of them I will throw them on the ground to becomes flies, thats all ❤

Rain was entering my love net. I had to cover the part that was exposed to the rains with a big nylon. And as for the light, you can get an electrician to connect lights inside your love net, thats if your love net is indoor. But you can use transpirent roofing sheets for the roof of your love net if it is out. I hope this helps.

Bring down the volume of the background music if you find the music necessary. Simply use a sieve bag or container to sieve out water from larvae. Show your phone number on your videos and watch out for traffic. Wish you success. I already a BSF larvae farmer, just started anyways. I like your improvising ways.

Please note that BSF prefer to have a higher cage in order to mate. I started with 1 cubic meter and they hardly mate in there. When I moved to a 2 square meter mating improved immensely

I’m watching from Chile. Getting black soldier fly here is incredibly difficult but I just managed to get hold of 300 twelve day old larvae. I have put them into a chicken feed substrate but I’m not quite sure if that’s correct as soon they will stop eating and turn into prepupae. What steps would you take with these larvae? Bow do you control temperatures and humidity and the place is open?

Temperature in Nigeria is suitable for them and I also ensure that their substrate isn't too dry. As for the love net, I occasionally spray water on the net. Ideally, the place is supposed to be covered, but for want of funds, we haven't done that yet. But on a commercial scale, you may need systems in place to control the humidity for better performance.

Watching from Central United States of America ( State of Missouri ) Sorry, but video would have been better without the distracting background droning sound/music. I have not seen killing larvae with hot water before. Small batches I have raised (maybe a kilo or so at a time) were to be rinsed off well with cool water. then sieved, air dried for a while with a fan blowing air over them. Then they were put into closed container and put into freezer to kill them that way and then moved into freeze dryer. Then they were freeze dried and some were vacuum bag packaged.Good for many years of storage if necessary. The remainder was put into airtight containers with remove/replace lids for everyday use. Chickens love both live and freeze dried BSFL. Here in Missouri winters are cold And BSF are from the wild with no breeding structures, so this is a warm summertime only activity. A greenhouse set up might help extend the BSF season, but I am not currently set up with that right now. By the way, a greenhouse would help extend my small crop of moringa tree growing season /harvest as well.

substrate depends on what's readily available in your area. You can use poultry waste, Brewery waste mixed with PKC, or you can get fruit waste from the market. But be sure to blend it to paste if possible and allow you substrate to ferment for a couple of days before using it.
