If you're Canadian and heading home, just keep hiking on the International Appalachian Trail.

I'm interested in going up the Hunt Trail, then down the Saddle Trail to Chimney Pond bunkhouse, making do with a bivy bag and liner for bedding. The next day, I'd hike out to Roaring Brook Campground, find a way to get my heavier gear back from the Katahdin Stream ranger station, and stay one more night. The logistics are a little touchy, but the park will help me figure them out.

This was hard to find, how to get home from Baxter State Park. THANK YOU.

Specifically, the Silver Line goes from South Station to Logan. It's not technically a subway, since it's a dual mode articulated bus that happens to run underground. Make sure you take the right one. SL1 goes to all the terminals at Logan.

Two questions. 1. Where is the nearest car rental store? 2. Are there clothing stores nearby so you can purchase new clothes for the trip home?
@FollowBigfoot7 жыл бұрын
+TheAndysim66 I believe the nearest would be Bangor. And in Millinocket I found a little shop that had some clothing just to get something I could fit into and smelt like a normal person
@djg59507 жыл бұрын
Miilinocket has thrift stores with cheap clothing.

You can also transfer in Portland to a Concord bus that goes straight to Logan. The problem with the Amtrack Down Easter is it goes into North Station. You are almost always better in Boston going into South Station (which is where Concord will drop you if it is not bringing you direct to Logan.)

What if you start in Maine and end in Georgia is there a greyhound bus you can take from ct to Maine and another one from Georgia back to CT

AMTRAK for the win! You just walked 2200 miles so why be in a hurry?
@LynnAlexandersMom5 жыл бұрын
exactly... I wouldn't even mind the bus ride home.
@counterfit55 жыл бұрын
You'd still have to transfer to South Station in Boston. Might as well take the bus and skip a step.

Bigfoot you left out one option. Turn around and walk SOBO LOL! Seriously some great information thanks much for all you do for the trail family!

Does anyone start SOBO after the summit? I got nowhere to be afterwards so I'm thinking of doing that. Depends on my fitness

Yes,,,, walk south and catch the fall foliage. But I hitchhike home or to the Mexican Border about half of the time. I like the long hitch hikes that let me catch the fall foliage in the New England states.

I live in New Hampshire, where can my husband stay the night before and where can he pick me up after the summit, I’m planning on doing the AT in 2022

My fiance hiked the Appalachian trail this year. I reserved the katahdin camp ground for two nights. Plan B was for me to stay at Shaw's for one night then drove to Baxter state park to katahdin streams or abol camp in Baxter state park.

WOW! Do you have a Power Point Flow chart for all that! LOL It sounds like to me it's just easier to turn around and do a south bound thru hike! LOL :) (Actually you put together a lot of good info. I'll save this vid for my future hike!)

Bangor Maine- If you are going to Bangor (Banger), Stephen Kings home is on Broadway. It will show up on Google Maps if you zoom in. The folks in Bangor were always very friendly but I haven't been there for 27 years. I cannot wait to see everyone there!

Dang Big Foot that was a lot of info. After Katahdin why not just walk back to your car at Amicalola Falls and drive home. That's a good way to almost use up a full year on the trail. Lol Have a good one Buddy...

All this info is useful to thru-hikers looking to head home. You left out one option, though. They can also rent a car. Not sure if Millinocket has any car rental places but I'm sure Bangor does. Of course, it wouldn't be the cheapest option, especially since it would be one way only. Thanks for posting this much needed info.

Right now, this does not register... it is something I have wondered for over a month. I love the info. I am from Minneapolis/Bloomington. I am planning this in like 2021. I wish I could sit with you and chat, share what I know now. Do you ever meet subs? You have done a great job on this vid. Honestly, after 6 months in the elements, a slow bus home sounds great right now. Let me know if you ever meet subs. Thanks

Hey What about Augusta? is that an option?
@FollowBigfoot7 жыл бұрын
+Alex Williams Not really. The only destination August flies to is Boston, so you have to catch a connecting flight in Boston. The other thing is every price I checked when I compared to Boston you are paying hundred to hundreds of dollars more to fly out of August. So it just wouldn't make much sense to go out of August.

When I get off the Trail at Mount Katahdin I'm going to see my Passamaquoddy family and the McNeils of Bangor Maine. Thinking about pulling a prank on an old childhood neighbor Mr. Stephen King (yeah, that one).. Don't go blabbing :D... I plan to visit Vacation Land (Maine) for a month or so. Maine has the highest density of wooded land in the U.S. per capita at an estimated 85%. From what I hear.... Bigfoot likes woods! :D Nolo- AT Class of 2020
