@@Kizzle1237 I use braid because it’s lighter and I feel it’s more forgiving then mono but it breaks easier. Mono works better on spinning reels then it does on a bait caster. But braid works well on both. I use mono only on spinning reels and use it for live bait and drop shots. Sometimes I use lures. For my bait casters I use braid and only use lures with the bait caster. But again it mostly comes down to preference.

@@Kizzle1237 You have a fluro backing to braid setup? Usually it's the other way around. Top water lures float so you want the line connected to them to also float to not affect the action, monofilament is the best in that case. Fluro and braid sink.

The rod and reel are not something you want to go cheap on if you’re serious about bass fishing, especially the rod. Shimano Zodias and Expride are two great rods models to consider.
