Agree. That's, to me, the biggest downsides to vans, "C"'s, And "A"s (assuming no towed). Any time you want to go anywhere, you have to break camp, unless you got bikes/cycles/e-bikes.

We had a travel trailer, then a large class C (same floorplan as that one). We are now in a class B and would not go back. The ease of driving and flexibility with getting places is worth the smaller space. It makes traveling so much nicer. Much easier setup also.

I've heard a lot of good things on the Travato. I know a lot of professional bass fisherman and obviously towing a boat, your options are pretty limited. For ages, many have had the truck bed campers, and while they do the trick, all the set up is a pain. With the advent of the "off road"/boondock/all wheel drive class "B"s, a fair number are making the switch to the "B"s. The ones who have switched over say they love it.

A good compromise between the Class C and B is the 2024 Coachmen Prism Elite 24MBE. It's on the Mercedes chassis and has one of the largest rear bathrooms I've ever seen in B+ and it can come with a washer/dryer combo. Matt's RV reviewed a 2023 Coachmen Prism Elite with the washer/drier combo. It was sale priced at $119K. But no matter what you decide please get a third party inspection (Blue Ox) done prior to signing on the dotted line. The only lemon you really want is what you put in your ice tea.

This is not a commercial, LOL but if I were starting over knowing what I know now I would be in the Coachman Li3 ($157K) purchased from Sunshine State RV's in Gainesville, FL. Look at their Elite Club. They will fly you there to pick up or deliver free anywhere in the conus. Northwood Artic Fox is a quality built trailer. I will never own an RV with slides again. If you must have slides, stay away from Schwintek. Good Luck!

My sister and BIL were big RV'ers for over 40 years. The first one they bought when they were rookies, "The Long Long Trailer" was the first thing that popped into my mind. Pretty much came true when we coming down a mountain outside Monarch. We noticed we kept going faster and faster down the mountain. My BIL being the cool under fire types didn't tell us the breaks were over heated until we were just about hitting the curves on two wheels. Made for a funny story after the fact. Not so much at the time.

Stick with the "B". I have done the trailer, C, and A. I now have the Nova 20D and will never go back. Slides and leveling jacks are creations by the devil. Also, check on the cost of good storage in your area 'cause none of those rigs are going to fit in your driveway. Now, I would probably never take another 10 month trip in the B like we did with the A, but I am OK with that. The ease of just jumping in and going is worth the smaller space. My wife does miss the washer and dryer and I miss the outdoor TV at times but technology is your friend and you can work around that.

What I don't miss about our little trailer was that there were so many places that we wanted to pull over for lunch and we couldn't find a place to park it! We only had a 12 foot pop-up A-frame towed by a Subaru Outback. Honestly, I don't know what people do when they're pulling a huge fifth wheel with a monster pickup truck. It's so limiting. We love our nimble little B van. And, likewise, I never want slides or self-leveling jacks. Too many things to go wrong or leak. Less is more.
@garydunn94204 ай бұрын
Over the years we have had a Class A, a Fifth wheel, a Class C and now a Class B. We camped with the kids in the A and Fifth wheel, so we needed the room and pretty much just went to a site and stayed awhile. After retirement we decided we wanted to travel and explore. Purchased a 26' C and did not want to pull a toad so as to be able to just stop at any tourist trap we wanted. Thought we would just accept that we would find a parking spot just a little farther away and walk. Good idea, but definitely not aways an option. I would suggest this, every time you go somewhere with Mr. Lemon, pretend he is approximately say just three or four feet longer. Then explore ideas on what you would do. Yes, more room would be great, but for us the mobility is a game changer. Also let me add that we purchased a Coachmen Beyond 22C LI3 two years ago and love it. The quality as you noticed shows. Also, it is truly amazing how much the management at the Factory level stands behind their product and customers. Can't stress that enough.

Coachmen is a great choice. One thing I don't like about the Beyond is the back windows don't open so no ventilation over the beds. I would get the Nova 20RB in a heartbeat. A bit more storage due to the shorter front cabin and the 2024 model comes with the tire and ladder on the back. You can find them cheaper so shop around if you start to look. NIRVC is a good place to start.

I am most impressed with the Coachman level of quality and design. They seem like the most well-built in an industry not known for durability and quality. The Beyond is a perfect layout and chassis. Many of their interior components are built by Amish craftspeople with a lot of integrity. I saw a used 2019 Coachman Crossfit in Seattle a couple weeks ago for $85K. So tempting! Guys I loved my fifth wheel but for me , as a solo traveler, it was too much for me to drive around. Plus, it was difficult to find spots like when you drive a class B and even some class C’s. Go and take a look at Truck Campers and see how you like them. You would need a truck but the truck can stay with you if you ever decide to get a different type of rig. The best part for me is that I can go almost anywhere, boondock and take the camper off the truck and go explore or to run errands if I like. It has a lot of benefits and the footprint is by far one of the best.

I'd be curious as to what amount of solar is on each of those RVs? The lithium package is what makes the Coachman so expensive (along with the quality of real wood cabinets). If you found one without the Li package you'd save some money, but considering the quality of Coachman, the added cost of AWD, and having a lithium package, that price isn't really that bad. You should at least get a "out the door" price on it rather than decide based on advertised price.

Thumbs UP! really enjoy your videos...As the Promaster has demonstrated, front-wheel drive is garbage for anything but flat and/or hard surface driving. So... AWD or 4WD is the answer and now will determine your choices - van or truck based. I'm not a Ford guy, but the AWD Transit is the practical van choice and can be serviced (if needed) anywhere. My van vote is a custom or self built AWD Transit. Build something similar/cheaper to the Adventure Wagon interior and use the van as you build it out permanently. For a truck, the real and only answer is a 4WD diesel dually with a camper, small 5th wheel, or travel trailer. Additionally, a goose neck horse trailer with living quarters (all welded aluminum construction) is the best built tow-able that is made for durability. Also, a goose neck trailer has the front mounted bed area like a 5th wheel, but isn't any taller than your van with A/C unit. You could also build out a short (26 foot or less) all aluminum welded goose neck cargo trailer for a full custom tow-able. Standard cargo trailer builds are cool too and very affordable and could be towed with a smaller truck if needed. Summary - Just get the AWD Transit and custom build by you or an outfitter. Keep it simple and quick and get busy living!

Class C: You would be able to get into bathroom with that slide closed. No one would buy one that did not work for that so they could use the bathroom when traveling and not have to open slide first. I would buy a C with NO slides though. Also, the locks for the under storage compartments usually are the same for all RVs with that type of compartment.... So, should change the locks to a different type with a "unique" key. A 450 is good--permits more CCC than a 350.

I like the first camper. The thing with a camper is that once you park it, you don't have to pack up everything you have out to move it. Just hop in the truck and go. The 5th wheel was nice, but too big for me to pull it comfortably. Like the Class C, but it's king of big too, NICE, but big. The expensive van Class B, I'd keep what I already have for that price. :) Then I think you have the HOA to deal with too.
@Vancaskeys4 ай бұрын
All great points. And you are so right…our HOA would be a no go.
@bigc80184 ай бұрын
@@Vancaskeys That's always the best thing about travel trailers. You park them, set up, unhook and you just tool around in your truck without having to break camp every time you want to go somewhere. Forest River makes a 25' travel trailer in various decent floor plans that have a couple of slides that aren't all complete crap (usually) and they are generally less harmful to the wallet than many. The plus slide (in addition to it being a trailer and relatively smallish) is that they aren't that heavy and you can get by with a half ton pick up to pull them, although a 3/4 ton would probably be better. The best class C ever built are the old GMC's that were made from 1973-1978. They are collectors items today. My next door neighbor had one that he bought new in 1975 and he had it for 40 years. In the early 2000's he completely rebuilt it, Re-did everything inside, outside, drive train, engine, everything. After he died his daughter sold it while I was out of town. Man I would have bought that thing in a minute, as it was essentially new. He parked it in his drive way and it was small and compact enough that the HOA (and they were old busy bodies with nothing better to do than bitch about everything) never said anything about it. Obviously, as you know, if space is really what you want, you get a 5th wheel or drive a bus. For me, I'm too old for that these days. As you look at and review RV's all the time, you know better than most that for the most part, RV's are built like garbage particularly from Covid to present. These days you can't even go with the "They are noted for a quality build". Even with the exact same model one can be complete crap and the next one that was the next one built, even crappier. At my age, were I to get another RV, I would most likely go with an Oliver II. Yes, they are expensive, but for an RV, they are probably the best built smaller RV's around (with the above caveat in mind). Very well thought out, supposedly excellent customer support, you pick them up at the factory where they have a campground that you can stay at and work out the kinks with technicians to help you out while you're there actually camping in them. If I went with a "C", the least crappy of the bunch seem to be the Winnebago View. Not too big, just one slide to hassle with (and to have problems with. In general, every slide you have trebles the BS you have to deal with) and the Mercedes chassis seems to be less crap than most. In any case, no matter what you get, you just have to make peace with the fact that its a depreciating liability that is even worse, and the "drive-off-the-lot-depreciation" makes that of a new car seem tame. One thing I would also do, no matter what I bought, would be to have it inspected by a certified RV inspector that YOU hire (never take the recommendation of the dealer/seller) that actually know what they are doing. On the plus side, when you're mostly bald from pulling your hair out dealing with the BS that comes with the "joy" of RV ownership, just keep in mind the old axiom, "Buy an RV, they said. It will be fun they said".

Oh, I hope it helps… how can I get that apron and the big coffee mug? I like what you’re doing and your merch stuff is awesome. Good job Marketing .

I like that class B too. Just not the price.

Personally, I'd not get one with slides. I just don't like them and even with the added width, they are a little problem in that they do have issues with time. They like to leak and are a source of problems that you do not get in a trailer that doesn't have them.

The Forest River TT is ridiculous. Lots of wasted space. The Arctic Fox is nice, but ugly couch/loungers. Grande Ronde is a town and Native American reservation in Oregon. I love 5th wheels. The Class C isn't bad, but a bit long for the vehicle type. Class B was okay. Love the Ford chassis. Most of the seem campground dependent.

I would love the ibex for a summer home! Just where would you park it?
@Vancaskeys4 ай бұрын
Right! We wouldn’t have anywhere to park it.

Duallies on Beyond 22RB is the only thing I don't like.

Coachmen looks nice but all those exposed connections would make it a no go for me

So the 5th Wheel (can get better for 90K) and a Truck for the same price as that B. There is no way I would pick the Class B over that pair. I would expect way more for that much money in a B

OK, here's my 2 cents...Get a low mile, used FL60 ambulance with a 6.4L 6 cylinder diesel & Allison automatic transmission for 10-20K. Hire a wielder to raise the aluminum roof. Rip all the medical stuff out and build it out to your liking. Use high quality Victron components. Tons of battery storage. Lots of room up top for solar panels. Install a high quality A/C. For under 70K you'll have a rig that will run forever and be better built than anything on the RV market. 🚑

If you’re looking for a fifth wheel, we are ready to sell our truck and fifth wheel. Ram dually and Montana 3931FB both are 2019 - it been sitting in our drive way since my wife’s back has gone out and she’s in a lot of pain - interested ?

Hi how tall are you? You were bending your head in the bathroom. PS how about a used Beyond? Like the vid. Thanks

Not thrilled with any of those. The Coachman has a bed you have to make / unmake to have your hang out spot - not a fan.
