Also, what I did was called a horse stable near me and a tree company near me and I got absolutely free. They scooped gave me saldust and wood chippings and horse manure and I blended and I tilted alltogether I got. About 8 truck loads like that, absolutely free.

A tip for worms. You can go around at 2-3 am with a headlamp and find worms all over the place, big ones too. If you need worms for your garden just grab some from around your property and put them in your beds. And a tip for the logs, if you take a drill and drill some holes in the wood, it gives places for worms, roots, and water to get in. And they also break down faster and act like water batteries for your plants. Edit, and be careful when purchasing a composter, the counter ones you plug in don't actually compost the food scraps but rather dessicate and dry them, so i wouldn't waste the money and electricity on one.

You can also get a 3/8 inch screen and sift your own dirt. 🙂

We have alwys buried vegetable kitchen scraps and egg shells in our garden, not bothering to compost them. I just built six raised beds from boards that came off a horse fencing that blew down. I like the idea of putting logs in the bottom. But once the beds are full, our kitchen scraps get buried between the rows of plants.

Add some chicken poop on the wood before you cover the logs. The higher nitrogen will help the wood break down. Trust me i put wood in the bottom of my raised beds that are 27" deep. It's all still there 4 and 5 years later.
