Pokemon can be an expensive hobby for some people. We understand pay and prices vary around the world. When we made this video, it was from the perspective of a consumer in the United States.

Sorting cards is honestly my favorite part of the process (aside from the pack openings obviously haha). Its really calming and a great way to unwind, kinda like building a lego set

If your budget is like $50, you might as well get singles to start if you're not gonna play the game. For me I loved playing the TCG battles when i was younger and want to teach my brothers to play Pokemon. I will have a personal binder of my prize collection which I'm mostly focusing on art and Japanese cards of my favorite pokemon. I don't care for rarity, i just love the art and aesthetics.

In my opinion i love opening packs and for people that love opening packs a etb is the perfect item to buy its not too much not to little has the perfect amount of packs and is just convenient in every way. I also buy singles but sometime i just wanna go home make some coffee, turn the tv on, and rip some packs open!

etb $35, binder $25 hard sleeves $5 (if you into collecting) , playing mat $5 (if your into playing), energy cards $2 (if your into playing), precision scale $8 (if your into buying cards) , coin microscope $25-35 (to see if cards are in good condition at home and if they are worth grading), magnifying glass $5 (for on the go grading when in flea markets and such) microfiber cloth and gloves $ 3 (for cleaning/protectiong), Boxes for fodder. This is pretty much everything needed to get into serious card collection, not only pokemon but also sports, anime, etc. I think the best advice for any new collector is to understand the cards, their grading scale, what to do to protect and not damage them, how to spot fake cards, and making sure to have a good supply of garage sales and flea markets near to you lol. Collecting and making money are two completely different things. Making money by card collecting can be done by going to flea markets and is general the easier way to start getting profit even if your just looking to not sell those cards. but noticing market spikes and new releases are usually for people more in the space.

Good info for starting out, but I need to know what I'm looking for? What does the info on the card tell me. How to tell a $5 dollar card to a $1000. How can I tell if a card is a rare and worth alot?
@blurrtcg7 күн бұрын
So there are different types of rarity on cards, but ultimately what determines a card's value is its demand. To tell how much a card is worth, I go to a website like TCGplayer.com and look the card up.

Get a $3.00 binder and a $4.00 card pages pack, save yourself $13.00. You can buy three more card packs.

Do you have any recommendations for good binders and sleeves? I dont know if its the lighting in my room but my cards look cloudy sitting in the binder :( must i spend a bomb on vault x or are there more affordable alternatives that are just as good?
@blurrtcg9 күн бұрын
Sleeves, I always recommend matte Dragon Shields. For binders, I'm usually fine with the regular ultra pro binders. They are pretty cheap and do a good job at storing cards. There are more expensive options like vault x, but if your tryna save money, ultra pro will do the job.

Good information. The thing that has me in a daze is that I like the art, but 6 sets per year with hundreds of cards in each set, how does a person set a goal or a limit? I enjoy opening packs like everyone else and then I use the check sheets from the Pokemon site to mark the ones I get. I'm thinking I will not worry about building sets and instead just put any card from this year in a binder or two with them displayed by colors. Also 2023 in another binder or two. I'm going to try to just stick with These two years for now. When and if I decide to do a master set I would then pull those cards for that set together in a separate binder. On the other hand I may give up as I really get the feeling that the Pokemon card folks are pretty much ripping collectors off with how stingy they are with the best cards. Feels like highway robbery especially when you get nothing but duplicates and sometimes two of the same card in a pack. Also why are the Japan cards so much better? Thanks again for your information.
@blurrtcgАй бұрын
I made a video about a $20 dollar collection, you should check it out for details about a cheaper and more fun way to collect. I think you should worry about collecting cards that you like. Having a binder per year is not a bad idea either. As long as you don’t focus on the one or two cards that the scalpers are pushing the price up on, I think collecting can be fun and affordable.
@blurrtcgАй бұрын
And as far as Japanese cards, they just have higher quality control, which is often why the cards are cheaper there as there is a higher number of higher grade cards in circulation.
@PeritashGamingАй бұрын
in my town i did a smal calculation. boosters go for 6 euro and a store (kruitvat) sels tins with 3 boosters for 11 euros thats 1 euro cheaper + one booster pack for free, i imagine cant get beter than that
@blurrtcgАй бұрын
You're absolutely right! and also, buying a booster box can also be a much more cost-effective way to get packs. However, for a new collector, the extra items included in an Elite Trainer Box can be incredibly helpful for building and organizing their collection from the start.
@Ibanez-fn4nv9 күн бұрын
Elite trainer boxes start at like $90 in Australia unfortunately. Dang pricey lol
@blurrtcg9 күн бұрын
aww, sorry about that. I forgot to mention in the video that the prices I talked about were American prices. I ended up making a video on how to collect even cheaper, acknowledging that prices around the world were different.

I am a bad collectionist. I put in my binder only holo cards and not common. Is this make sense? I used to collect everything from the 1st generation but now pokemons are like 1000? i can't collect 'em all. I still need to find a scope for the collection
@blurrtcg2 ай бұрын
Collecting Pokémon cards is such a personal experience, and it’s different for everyone. For example, I mainly focus on full art trainers and illustration rares that catch my eye. It really comes down to figuring out what kind of collection makes you happy. If having a random assortment of cards in your binder brings you joy, then go for it! Personally, I like to have a little bit of categorization behind my collection. But I get that with so many Pokémon now, it can definitely get a little overwhelming,

Japense booster sets are a little cheeper than the english one and this goes for the individual cards as well. This isnt because they are worse, but because more are supplied, packs contain fewer cards, and its harder to use them in tournaments. I personally find that collecting these cards is great when trying to keep to a solid budget and the cards themselves are generally higher quality.
