Yeah some time ago. That one still bothers me. The story, and I've mentioned this on some live shows, but I would go to the pool to watch the bubba swim and for 30 days, someone who knew I was into fishing would come talk to me about it. They thought that I didn't know and they were telling me something new. It was CRAZY, especially cuz 95% of the people, I didn't want to talk to as is. LOL Cheers and Happy New Year.

Some folks who try to conduct a CPR tournament, or fish one for the first time, don't really know the details of how to measure fish so they are consistent across all competitors. Bass boaters like Todd Castledine in a recent video like to bash these tournament formats because they are only superficially knowledgeable about them....and have an ax to grind.

This was an infamous fraud attempt. It caused a change in the rules WRT hand placement on fish to secure them on the board. Easy fix for these types of attempts. Now you need to make a video on the Hawg Trough being cut down by 2 inches, and then the infamous "Sharpie Girl" cheating incident. Those were also classics!

They get themselves into debt trying to make it their career, no different than parents/kids spending money on training camps, equipment and so forth in an attempt to go pro one day. You don’t NEED a 24’ bass boat with a rod locker full of NRX’s and $30k in lures in order to fish a tournament. I fished the Redman trail a couple of times and I used what I owned and was a chandler with a friend. All told between us it cost a few hundred dollars to fish and the prize money was a lot more than that.

Yeah, that is weak.i wish folks would be able to compete with their own skills. I finished top 20 my first time fishing Okeechobee. I was a co angler and won 2 rods and a good bit of tackle . I was respectful and learned from my boater, and we finished 16th. I did my best to contribute and have a good time. Catch, Photo and Release is an excellent method when used appropriately. The mouth must be closed and against the backstop. His wasn’t. Other examples include bent boards and duplicate fish, some painted or masked to hide traits. Thanks Steve

I doubt the typical bass boater who watches this page knew anything about this cheating incident-or any of the cheating incidents with CPR. That is not part of their culture to concern themself with. Kayak fishing is not the entire realm of bass fishing-it is silly to assume that.

Kayak bass tournaments are the most expanding of bass platforms and they have made great progress in CPR. Steve has offered an excellent example of the prevalent cheating of late. Regular guys who routinely only fish bass boat tournaments where they haul the bass to a central weigh in....and weighed, are not tuned into the cheating scandals in the kayak fishing world and how they attempt to cheat the CPR system. Your being self-referential about what YOU knew and when you knew it is irrelevant to everyone else. Most of the people have NOT heard about this- I have because I have been kayak tournament fishing since 2015. I've fished against a couple well known cheaters such as Kruckenberg (the board shortener) and the infamous 'Sharpie Girl'. I dont have to watch the video I already read about this, the guy was holding a cutoff tail from another fish over the tail of the actual fish in an effort to make it look longer. Fortunately the judge spotted the trick and could tell the guy was hiding the tail under his hand. I fish semi pro bass tournaments and it seems like no matter what the tournament format there will be some lowlife trying to cheat.

Anyone ever take into account a lot of this started being more consistent after 2020......covid introduced A LOT of new people into fishing and some into tournaments. Now if you're a beginner tournament fisherman, you get humbled quickly more often then none. Could be a lot to do with more "SOCIAL MEDIA" presence and wanting likes since I'm sure sitting around when everything was shut down some wanted that feeling. There are a lot of great anglers, unfortunately it only takes a few to bring negative effects to a sport, and social media let's everyone voice their opinions and sometimes the opinions voiced aren't always the majority thoughts. But then that's why a squeaky wheel gets the most attention.
