Very nice otter buddy! I set a couple traps today unfortunately I’m hoping to not catch an otter for no season for them here but they are everywhere in these beaver dams I walked to today.
@judithdandavis22068 ай бұрын
we are lucky , unlimited cats and otters . the entire season till march 15th , then nuisance beaver can be trapped year round . the landowners already said he has other properties for me to hit . got to love good landowners . i have a market for my spring beaver also , they want them green and flat rate per skin .

Good job, glad you got her.Wounder were the mate is ?
@judithdandavis22068 ай бұрын
i hope he comes looking for her . what tracks i found on the sandbar were just a single set of tracks .
@canislatrans82858 ай бұрын
Yeah, otter tracks are quite distinctive. They tend to have the 5th toe show up, when mink seem to show 4 most of the time. I saw a partial track at the little stream I've been dickering around in that had me scratching my head. The glare from the sun made it hard to see if there were any claw marks, but the toe pads and shape were the size and look of a bobcat, OR a partial otter track with no toenails showing. That and the small scratch marks you see where bank meets water that muskrats make, have me thinking I licked a toad lol. I see nothing else to indicate a muskrat. Near there is a big chunk of barn wood floating that stays within a deep pool, and a big rock jutting from the water. If there was a rat in there, there would be poop on either 1. I did catch 2 raccoons in there. No mink tracks, but never say never lol.
@judithdandavis22068 ай бұрын
LOL , licking a toad . i haven't heard that in a while , i have a hard time telling some tracks apart at times . the claw marks on the waters edge and muskrats is so true . i find most of my mink sign around rocks and sandbars . otter love the sandbars . sandbars have been my favorite locations this season . took 5 grey fox on a sandbar also . i will focus on a lot more blind sets for mink and otter next season . i have learned a lot from suggestions and advise from , seldom fails . i bought 6 mink trapping books to study up on the old timer sets for mink . blind setting mostly .
@canislatrans82858 ай бұрын
@@judithdandavis2206 mink are hard to figure out lol, but I had a couple spots years ago that were just plain minky, and guaranteed to catch a couple each season so long as I set for at least 3 weeks. One spot I had a mink back to back, so 2 in 2 days. Another I had a double in 160's. That big creek I had, had a lot of mink so just a few blind and a pocket set or 2, and 2- 3 mink while waiting on the otters and traveling beavers. I had muskrats and coon to entertain me until then.
