This is the type of rockhounding I enjoy. I would not give up on the area just yet. It looks like that rock did not travel far, so finding the vein is possible. Veins are like backward flowing streams, they narrow and widen and just like streams they deposit different material in different areas. Also if you find more then one vein in the area it may give you some clue as to the direction where the larger vein is.

I like how it's got bluish gray and reddish oranges. Pretty. But, not amazing. Still, better than most of the ketchup mustard jasper I find. 😁 I bet it was nice still hiking and taking in the beauty. Thanks for sharing, Quest.

That's how I felt. It was good to get out and explore but not the greatest place for hounding.
