Colombia, is a Spanish-speaking country, officially the Republic of Colombia, is a country mostly in South America and the capital is Bogotá, today we are visiting Cartegena via a bus tour.
Our first stop was a 90-minute stop at La Serrezuela Mall. Here’s an official Traveling Bentley sighting! This modern mall was built on the original site of a bullring. Keeping with the tradition of the bullring, there is an arena honoring that history making for a great venue for concerts, weddings and more. How could you not go to Columbia without having Juan Valdez coffee?

As we boarded the bus again, our next stop was through the colonial section to Castle San Felipe de Barajas.
The Castillo San Felipe de Barajas was built in 1536 and is located on the Hill of San Lázaro in a strategic location, dominating the city. It was originally known as the Castillo de San Lázaro. The Palenqueros (ladies in colorful dresses were available for photo ops. It was loud and the street vendors were relentless. Just say No Gracias.
Also be sure to exchange your money before you arrive and have cash for restrooms in several areas.
There is a dichotomy of old and modern, and overall it is a very clean city with a large law enforcement presence everywhere. While we were with a group, we never felt at risk.
Arriving back at the dock, we thought our day was over.
The Port Oasis was genuinely the highlight of our trip here. Tropical birds, exotic animals and lush flora almost, that is, ALMOST make you forget about the heat (I won’t ever complain about Florida heat again!) and, of course one more chance for that Juan Valdez coffee.
